Ecm cuts fuel when sensing "Runaway" myth.......testing complete!

Rumors been going around that the reason the Redline box pops crackles above 4k rpm is because the ecm cuts power to the fuel system. At 4130 RPM my truck crackles & pops with the Redline box [any setting]. I noticed that when this happens, my fuel gauge bounces off of zero psi. I decided to run direct power to my Airdog on a toggle switch so it can't lose pressure. I tried multiple settings & noticed that the truck seems to want to runaway between 4k rpm- 4200+. It now gets to 4260rpm before it pops/crackles. I figure 100rpm was worth my time. I only tried a few settings, but I think it has more left to it.

That's awesome!!!!! That's good info to know for those trucks that are fueling above 3800rpm. Some day I hope to be there, either by p pump or vp. Thanks for doing the leg work and giving us feed back on it!!!! Does your quad ADR do the same thing????

Good find. Now can you confirm that you still have timing advance above
4k rpms? That's the thing holding back the VP. Over 3800rpm or so the pump is advanced as far as it can. The internals just don't let it pull the
4k rpm with the power of added timing.

I haven't tried the Adrenaline yet. It still won't launch, but it already pulled hard to 4300 rpm. I've been playing with different settings on redline to find the setup with highest revs. I lost by 1ft in open diesel at Greene County PPP pull. 100rpm should get me that foot.

4300rpm is as far as my vp has been. I know it has advance to that point. If it didn't, it wouldn't pull that far out. I can't wait to see how it does at Listie tomorrow night.

Go to 4230 & see when it pops/cuts out.

At 4131 rpm, you get no cutting out or popping?

J, you sent me your 4k tune. I posted a video on the 4k thread on comp d of the truck hitting 4 with the smarty/quad stack. His does the same thing with the quad/smart, it kills the lp power so he also has it on a toggle.

I'm not sure how the pump mounts to the case, but could you somehow mechanically rotate the pump to advance the base timing? If you gained 10deg of base timing, then when the pump advances fully say to 20deg you would theoretically have a total of 30deg.

Possible?

It is worth your time, but don't be expecting 400 more rpm or anything.

I think they already have these, they are called Monster pumps. I'm not sure how far they are advanced though.
