Dumb Question

here is my dumb question for the day:

A while back there was a thread on here talkin about turbo masters and turnbuckles.
I sort of gathered that there are 2 different types of turbos?
HY35 and HX35?
I am able to put a boost elbow on my truck if this helps............but im tryin to figure out for sure what i have and if a turnbuckle or turbo master can help me out.
I would love to buy the turnbuckle if it will work for me...save money......hehe.

ANY comments or information are appreciated, thanks.

From what I understand the hx is for std trans. hy for auto. Take a look in tech facts. As for the thread about turbuckles & elbos you might try the search feature. Have a good day!

The downside IMHO of the turnbuckle is that it will keep your wastegate closed all the time. While this will make very much boost it may also make very much turbo salad going down the intercooler. The Turbomaster is an adjustable device that limits drive pressure on the charger. So you still have a wastegate and if set up correctly won't grenade your turbo. Also EGTs are a little lower since you can avoid gettin out of the map of your charger too far.
The advantage of the turnbuckle is the price. (About 2$ over here)

You have the hx/35 turbo.Get the turbo master and be done with because likke was stated if you block off the waste it may take it out if you over spool it.2001 is when it changed over to the hy/35 on the auto.

Whats gonna happen if too much "turbo salad" goes down my intercooler?
Also, can someone define the phrase "spooling up fast" for me?

Peanut you have an HX35 because you have a manual the auto's have the HY 35 which needs the turnbuckle. The hx you have can have the boost elbow changed out to sustain higer boost levels. The elbow usually comes with an aftermarket fueling box and is changed when you add more fuel. If you were to purchase an Edge Comp it comes with the ported elbow which will raise your boost to lower EGT's with the box.

Since you have a TST box it should have come with an adjustable boost elbow? If not contact the dealer you purchased the box from to obtain one.

I means how quick your turbo builds boost or how much lag it has. Im laymens terms if you have a big turbo its usually laggy or takes longer to give you the kick in the pants. Or say you hammer it at an intersection you get nothing nothing nothing then your gone right? Well the faster a turbo spools the sooner you are gone from the light to say. Its also way more complicated then that, I just gave you the sugar coated version. ;D

well even a little turbo salad (made of compressor wheel leafs, engine oil dressing) will make you either clean out the intercooler and pray that you have got out everything, or buy a new intercooler. But it gives you the perfect excuse to buy a new turbo.... "honey look at this old one here, the innards are hanging out, oil is spewing around and we ain't got boost any more, we need an PDR Hybrid or an KSB1B or ..."

In place of a boost elbow I used an inline flow control valve,
but it makes no difference if it is wide open or closed completely off, I can only reach 24# boost. I think there is something wrong with my setup?

Jamie, I did get a boost elbow with the TST.........just thought there was a chance to even put out more boost with the turnbuckle or turbomaster, but I understand now.

I don't exactly know what kind of valve you rigged there. The wastegate diaphragm is actuated by pressure. You could check the travel of the wastegate by applying air pressure to the line. Maybe I've got you wrong, but I don't see the use of a flow control valve in that place.
