dodge ram 98.5 brutal steering
So, real quick run down. Certified truck into bc. Brand new front end, alignment. Drove truck loaded to Ontario. Spookiest thing ever. Swaying left and right. Read on way. Installed steering stabilizer. During that time, found out the alignment was off, pretty sure it ate the track bar. Fortunately a buddy had the bushing style beefed up track bar. Alignment. Also steering box tightened up.
The problem is the steering rod to tie and rod rotates on the ball joints giving it play. It looks to be a pure design flaw from dodge. Another buddy stated you can plug in a 4th gen steering to fix?
I've done some research but time ran out and on drive back toto bc loaded and truck is driving me crazy wandering.
Any other solid suggestions on fixing?
Thanks in advance.

uh temp fix?
I was thinking to temporarily fix wander by alternating the tie rod ends. Twisting to lock rod from not rotating. Specifically for the mountains. Would this work? Perhaps not twisted too tight but enough tI get rest of play out.

If all the suspension and steering components are tight..... with the toe set to around 1/8"-1/4" and the caster set more positive than factory spec, there should be zero wandering.

You have the best design, many of us change to the 98/99 T style over the older Y style.
You shouldn't try the 4th gen unless you have a 2001 or newer, the tapers do not match.
It is designed to roll on the joint, that is how you get articulation. There should be zero slop though.

Steering box braces really help on the highway, but won't fix other parts if they have play. I can let go of the wheel at 100mph and its dead steady.
Really the only way to inspect the front end is to jack front wheels off ground, give each wheel a shake by hand in all directions to feel for play, shouldn't be any at all. Then pry against all joints with a prybar for play. Ball joints can have 1/8" up and down, thats it for play IMHO. Seeing the tie rods rotate is normal. Also double check the toe in with a tape measure, I trust no techs.

Y steering is garbage. Just garbage. I run Ford style T steering and it works GREAT. Not only T style, but with bushings to resist rotation instead of just boots. At full left lock it does bonk the diff cover, but I've got a 5/16" diff cover- not sure it would hit the stock thin one or not.
Steering box brace is a must. I absolutely *love* my Delphi steering box. Works so well I dumped my ram assist and with the T steering I don't need a stabilizer shock at all. Even with steel sidewall truck rubber.
Here's my old rant on T-steering with full part numbers. Awesome setup with a capital A. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...nk-pns-309195/
