Differential oil LS additive
Differential oil LS additive
A dodge parts man told me today that a limited slip differential should have a limited slip additive added to the oil. Anyone know anything about that? Also, should the wheel bearings be packed with grease or do they get enough lube from the diff. oil? See my sig. for truck type.
It depends on the type of differential fluid and the amount of wear on the clutch packs. There is no set amount if any additive needed. Fill it up and do some figure 8s in a parking lot, if chatters add half a bottle of modifier at a time till it stops. If you add too much or just routinely add modifier your clutches will slip and you won't know anything is wrong till you get stuck with just one wheel spinning.
Follow your owners manual on the fluid level. Not sure on the 1st gens but on 2nds the level should be 1/2" below the bottom of the fill plug. Any more and the differential will run hot and the seals may leak.

Wish I had an owners manual. All I have right now is a Chiltons. It says the level should be 1/2 below the filler plug on 8 1/4, 8 3/8 and 8 3/4 in. axles and at the bottom of hole on the rest. I'm not sure which I have. the tag on it say 52068188-LS 3.54 605509-6. I'm sure the 3.54 is gear ratio and LS is limited slip. Don't know about the rest of the digits.
