Decided to buy 315 tires, now which one?

Ok so I priced out new axle ratios front and back, Got 4.1x's and really want 3.7x's and even if I install them, man that is gonna cost me a pretty penny.

So I have decided to buy 8 inch rims, I have found some locally through a tire shop but wondering if anyone knows of a cheap place in Canada to look for rims, I'm out west.

Additionally for a 315 tires, what should I buy.
- I carry and tow, mostly highway driving, it is a work truck, not a play toy
- I am not going to spend big bucks on rims either, plain simple, steel is fine for this old girl.
- I need an E rated tire, I would like a good winter/mud tire but it has to be highway manageable, as low noise as possible, lack of wander, etc.
- I don't want to spend 300 bucks per tire, and I am not tied to anyone brand, however I will never buy another michelin tire again in my life

So I am looking to buy 6 rims, and 6 tires, any advice.

Thanks, PS I have read most of the other threads on here and it sounds like my choice may be limited do to the tire size.

I'm not sure on the load range, it may be a D. But my money will be going to the Cooper Discovery ST's. They are an awesome tire that wears well on our big trucks. It's heavily siped for icey traction and self cleans very well in the mud & snow. I have a friend who is running 295/75's on his 99 quadcab and he has over 30K on the tires and they probably have 50-60% tread left. If you want something a little more aggresive, check out the Cooper Discovery STT's. They are a more off road dedicated tire with plenty of siping and a nice looking sidewall.

I don't believe you will find 315's in an E rating... I never have. Love my Toyo's.

Will 315's fit on a dually?

BFG AT's may be E rated in a 315...but you will not fit 315's on a dually...there are some good tires out there in a 34x9.50R16 size that are great for a taller narrow dually tire...not sure what brands sell them tho, but they will prolly have a mud terrain type tread

I got a set of tires bookmarked just incase I do really well at the H&R block office tomorrow, they are 35 14.5 17's, dang I wish I knew if these would definately fit or not.... they look super killer and aggressive 14.5 wide thats a lot of rubber on the road/ trail.

Thumbs up

There is another tire size out there you may be overlooking. The 255/85R16. It is a great tire, and does well in the snow. Check out Cooper's Discovery S/T in this size. You might like what you see. They will also fit on a dually and they're a little better than 33 inches tall.

I would recommend the 255/85R16s. They fit on a dually without the need for spacers and will fit on your stock wheels, so no need to buy new ones. The Cooper Discovery S/T is a great tire, I have never run the newer ST/T but it appears to be a bit more aggresive then the S/T. I have never been disapointted by Cooper tires, they always perform well for their intended use. Their pricing is pretty good too. Oh yeah 255/85R16s are usually E rated.
