Condensation seen in Pyro gauge?

Ok, I know this is going to sound weird. But, I know that living in Washington may increase my humidity, but, this can't be good. Is it?

Whenever I drive my truck for a 1/2-1 hour, I notice my Pyro gauge fogging. My Boost isn't. The brand I have is Western Diesel. I did their install and feel confident that I haven't made any obvious errors in the install. So why the heck is it doing that? Any thoughts? ???

TJ

Re:Condensation seen in Pyro gauge?

I don't have any experience with Western Diesel, but the Auto Meter tach in my Ranger has always done that. Still working fine and looks good after 2 years so i suppose it doesn't hurt anything..

Re:Condensation seen in Pyro gauge?

One possible cause.

If they are pillar mounted, there is a vent located to the lh top side of the dash. If you turn your fan switch so that air blows out of this vent, it will fog the gauge on the pod, usually the bottom one. My Dodge neon has done this for years with no affect on the gauge. Does it happen with the fan switch off or on?

Tim

Re:Condensation seen in Pyro gauge?

My old '99 pillar mounted ISSPRO gauges never did that, and they are 4 years old now, never a problem, never any fogging (even when the windshield does fog for a few moments). I can sometimes run the air conditioner enough to slightly fog the inside of my windows, and the guages never fogged. I am putting the same ISSPRO guages into my new '03 with pillar mount as soon as they arrive.

Re:Condensation seen in Pyro gauge?

My '97 with autometer gauges would do it...haven't seen it yet on the '03, but haven't had it that long either.

Re:Condensation seen in Pyro gauge?

I have my AutoMeters mounted on the pillar and my tranny temp fogs up sometimes... it's the bottom gauge... usually goes away pretty quick and doesn't seem to affect the gauge at all....

Tony

Re:Condensation seen in Pyro gauge?

I have the autometer phantom series and my oil temp gauge does this. On mine though it is the top gauge. I was wondering if you were to drill a small hole in the glass would it help the problem. I am not sure though if it is plastic or actually glass.

Re:Condensation seen in Pyro gauge?

Condensation in the guages is not a problem most of the time. It is caused by leaving the truck with the windows rolled up and the carpet wet, or by letting it rain in the truck.

It will ususally clear up when the weather gets dry and the truck cab gets good and hot.

I have all Isspro guages in my motorhome, and after a weekend of snowmobiling the fuel guage fogs. It always dries out after I get it home and park it in the machine shed for a few days. Been that way for 11 years, and still going.

Re:Condensation seen in Pyro gauge?

Thanks for all the posts......

Here's the info some requested. The gauge is the Top gauge that foggs.

No, I don't believe that the fan running makes any difference.

No, I have no leaks or wet carpet either.

I agree. I'm gonna drill a small hole in the gauge to see if a little more "breathing" will keep the moisture out. (Again, I need to be sure the face is NOT glass. I'll call Western Diesel to find out. I'll call on Monday and will let you know how it goes.

Finally, this fogging thing may not cause the gauge to crap out, but seeing through to read the gauge is a PITA!
Thanks Guys.

TJ

Re:Condensation seen in Pyro gauge?

Old thread, I know. I was wondering if there was ever a solution to the problem. My DiPricol pyro gauge is fogging (top gauge in the pillar mount).

Re:Condensation seen in Pyro gauge?

I had that problem with a couple of my Auto Meters. The company said send them in and they would replace the glass to the fog proof. No problems since even when in Oregon Coast last Fall.
