Component Speakers
Component Speakers
I'm getting a set of component speakers tomorrow and was just curious if any of yall have had any experience with them. They are Infinities. I don't know wattage. My friend is getting them for me from Circuit City.
Re:Component Speakers
A buddy of mine just put a set f Infinitys in a couple weeks ago. Theyre nice and clear... as long as youve got some bump to go with it
. But it looks like your doing fine with that portion (6- 12s) thats sick
. This buddy of mine has got 2 15'' Kicker Solos and theyll make you yak if your not carefull

Re:Component Speakers
I run Infinity Kappa seperates in my trucks. Infinity makes some good high's but their subs need some improvement. They have kind of been left behind by some of the others. I like the kicker solo's myself.

Re:Component Speakers
I've got a Sony X-plod (I'm upgrading to Alpine later this summer) that's 52wx4. I plan on putting like a 150w 4 channel on there to help power the subs. I've only got 3 12's now. I need a BIG amp to push them though. They are barely hitting now. I'm going to hook up my old 760w 2 channel and my current 800w 4 channel tomorrow and see how that go's. If that doesn't work, I'm going to go with my friends 1500w Audiobahn 2 channel. The reason I'm replacing my pioneer two ways I have now is cause I want more of the mid's and high's in the door's. I've got plenty of lows. I'll let yall know how it goes. Also, have any of yall had problems fitting these in an 01? Any suggestions or tips on where to mount the tweeter?

The front doors are 6x9's and the quad cab doors are 6.5's. I used 6.5 components in the front and I made an adapter out of 1/4 masonite (painted black) with both the woofer and tweeter mounted in it. In the quad cab doors I mounted the woofers from the component set. The final set of tweeters I mounted at the top of the corner plastic panels near the rear window. If you already have tweeters in the pillar you can mount the second set there as well.

No matter how good the set of speakers you put in is it will still sound like crap if you run it off the deck. The rated power of a deck is max power not RMS. A decent small amp (say 4x30RMS) is going to sound way better and will not cost a fortune. As a side note: more speakers are actually blown from too little power vs. too much power.
Will 6.5 inch spaekers be a direct fit? or do you mean 6x9?

Mike
Re:Component Speakers
Hey folks. Just to share my experiences....I wanted to upgrade my Infinity sound system with some component speakers in the front and 2 JL Audio tens under the back seat. Well, after researching I found out that the Infinity systems have their front and back speakers amplified at the front speakers (6x9s) ??? So after more research I figured that I better just buy a new head unit and rewire the whole thing myself. So here is what I did....Installed Alpine cd player as head unit, installed 6.5 inch Quart component speakers where the stock 6x9s were and where the stock tweeters were on the A-pillar, left the stock rear speakers in place and powered them with the Alpine deck, installed 2 JL Audio subs in box under rear bench, and finally, installed 4 channel punch 700x amplifier to power components and subs. I still have to figure out how to power the stock rear speakers with the Alpine deck since the wires for those speakers don't come directly from the head unit location. The system right now sounds awesome but I still want the power the rear stock speakers for the added "fill" sound. Anybody with some hints on how to do these...please share with me. Thank you for your time.

Rigg4x4
Re:Component Speakers
Actually if you get/got a wiring harness adapter there are wires for the rear speakers. The deck has a amp built into it just like an aftermarket deck to power the rears.
I still have to figure out how to power the stock rear speakers with the Alpine deck since the wires for those speakers don't come directly from the head unit location. Re:Component Speakers
I don't need anything fancy, just something that sounds good. If I fade to back speakers, I can barely hear anything out of them. It sounds very flat and bassy. Terrible.

Mike
Re:Component Speakers
Well, I just installed the components. They aren't the Kappas like I thought but they are nice. 270w max 6.5 in the front doors. I mounted the tweeter as high up on the door as I could. I also put bass blockers on the rear to speakers to help cut down some on the distortion (and they do help). Man. Those components sound sweet. The high's are crisp and clear and the mid bass is wonderful. An amp would be nice but that will have to wait. I'm focusing all of my attention and money towards my box and subs right now. The install was very easy and straight forward. I haven't sealed off the 6x9 hole yet in the front door. Didn't have anything to do it with. Oh well. They sound really nice. Thanks for all of yall's help.
Re:Component Speakers
I run these Focals if anyone is interested they aren't cheap but if you comp they are the only way to go these speakers I cannot distort no matter how much power we have put to them the are truely amazing.

Maybe I need more power than the 4x40 watts that are now feeding them.
