Compass & outside temperature

I am scrapping my 95 RAM 2500 gasser. I want to put the temp sensor & compass from the 95 overhead into the 96 Ram 2500 Cummins overhead. I see that the sensor is only 2 wires & that's not an issue but I would like to see a wiring diagram for it the unit because I don't know where the other wires are going for the compass. Thanks.

This is for a 2000, but maybe similar?? This is the diagram for the "Compass/Mini-trip computer".

Taken from ALLDATA:
COMPASS MINI-TRIP COMPUTER
The Compass Mini-Trip Computer is located in the premium overhead console on models equipped with this option. Two Compass Mini-Trip Computer units are available. One unit is used on vehicles not equipped with the Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS) option, and the other is used on vehicles with the VTSS option. Both Compass Mini-Trip Computer units include the electronic control module, a Vacuum-Fluorescent Display (VFD), a compass flux-gate unit and two push button function switches.

Compass mini-trip computer units for vehicles equipped with the VTSS include a red Light-Emitting Diode (LED) on their electronic circuit board. This LED protrudes through the bottom of the lens on the front of the overhead console unit, and serves as the security indicator lamp. Refer to Security Indicator Lamp in the Description and Operation of Vehicle Theft/Security Systems for more information on this feature.

The Compass Mini-Trip Computer module contains a central processing unit and interfaces with other electronic modules in the vehicle on the Chrysler Collision Detection (CCD) data bus network. The CCD data bus network allows the sharing of sensor information. This helps to reduce wire harness complexity, reduce internal controller hardware, and reduce component sensor current loads. At the same time, this system provides increased reliability, enhanced diagnostics, and allows the addition of many new feature capabilities.

I did this last year. Check to see if you have a 2 wire plug hanging by the left side of the radiator in the harness with the horn wires. I bet you will see it. Thats the plug for the temp sensor. The wire gets you to the big plug under the dash. You will need the harness from the big plug to the console from the doner truck. If you take apart the big plug on the doner truck and practice on some other connectors with a pic you will see how to remove the connectors from the plug of the doner truck. Use the pic to push the small tab on the connector and pull the connectors from the plug. Then you can push them into the diesel plug in the same position. There are some connectors that connect to some other plugs as well but are simple to remove. I don't have my service manual handy right now to tell you more.

BTW the 2001 is slightly different because it is connected to the computer. The rest is the same.

Thanks but the 95 is nothing but a compass & outside temperature sensor. No trip computer or fuel monitor. I'll check the pins but their is no BUSS connections in this vehicle. So I'm unsure why their is so many on the connector.

The connector on the unit has 11 pins.

Do you know where I have to connect them in the 96 diesel? thanks

All is well. The 96 had the same connection so the harness just plugged right in. Of course getting to the plug was another thing. The plug for the temp sensor was also there. It had a cap on it & it was taped to the wiring by the horn. Just need to get the compass read correctly. thanks

Only one whoops I noticed. The cab roof lights don't work. I have to trace which wires were connected to the old harness. If any one knows....thanks.
