Cold Air Intake questions??

I've searched and read for awhile about aftermarket intakes. Currently i'm running a BHAF that needs to be replaced. I am in the market for an intake kit. Which one is the best and flows the best??
AFE stg 2?
S&B kit??
AEM HD??

I like them all and really like the price of the S&B. But does anyone have experience with these intakes? Which one is loudest/quietest? let me know please thanks

Chris

i dont run all of em but i run the s&B. its not that loud but it does the job which is to supply more air to the intake. The AFE is also good but its probably a bit louder. the AEM imo isnt that grand as it has no way of blocking hot air from coming off the engine

Just get a replacement BHAF and spend that extra $$ somewhere else... You won't notice the difference...

I would kind of like to get a filter that I can clean and replace. The dirt road has been dirtying the BHAF's up quickly. the s&B might be the option anyone else have any suggestions??

I have the AEM WORKHORSE and it came with the heat shield

It is a dry filter and large in size

I have never found any dust in the torque tube or turbo

If you want loud cut a 4" hole in the cowl

here you go if you want cold air. http://psmdiesel.com It will make lots of noise, cold air (ambient temp), and cheap to do yourself. With all this said and done, the air still enters the block that is 180-200 degrees. On a hot day will it make a difference.......yes. On a cold day, no. On a really cold day it will actually hurt. I want intake temps to the cyl. at about 80 degrees, but thats just me. I see 120-140 on a 80-90* day with an AFE stage2, lots of noise.

I think any of the the paper/gauze element type of intakes will serve you just as well as your BHAF. I would stay away from a foam element because I have seen dust get through those on V8's used in desert trucks let alone the heavy gulp of our Cummins. Eric

I run the Volant and it flows great. The S&B looks almost the same and is a little cheaper. If I had found the S&B before I bought the Volant I would have saved the money. The oiled gauze filters are all mostly the same but I have noticed a lot of differnce in the intake tubing. The ones that flow well are obvious, they will have very smooth shape and turns. The Volent is louder than stock but not bad, I like hearing my turbo.
