clutch suggestions anyone???
i have a '99 dodge 1 ton, with 5 speed tranny. doing some significant mods hoping to achieve close to 600hp, ????lb ft torque. needing suggestions for a good clutch to get without breaking the bank too bad. i want quality for sure, but if i could get it for less $$ that would be great!! all the ones i found were $1500 to $2000, dual disk with new flywheel and all. is this the going rate for this stuff? thanks for your reply!!

Yes that is the going rate for quality...unfortunately quality and cheap just don't go together ;)
Southbend Clutch is the way to go and of course we give discounts and free shipping (lower 48) to members right here in the DTR Performance shop ;) |
South Bend Clutch.. No question.

I've got Southbend, seems to be holding up with my rig so far. There is another out there called Valair but don't know much about them. Seems everybody and their brother, sister, cousins, uncles.....are running Southbend though.

You are going to need to think about more than a clutch, I think. Probably want the upgraded 1 3/8" input shaft to handle that power.

I have found him to be more than competitive..........[coffee] |
southbend dual disc. think u pretty much hafta get the 1 3/8 input shaft to run that clutch but not entirely sure. thats what i plan on for the next jump in power anyways
|
I'd say if you just what a dyno queen at 600 RWHP stick with the 1 1/4 input. If you want to dump the clutch at 600 you're going to need the 1 3/8 input. I've always put SB clutchs in mine, but I'd be willing to try a valair if I were to buy another man.
|
thanks for the advice. with the dual disk clutch would it be ok to pull the car hauler with my mud rig loaded on it? i want to do these mods, but i still gotta pull the trailer on the weekends.
|
The Dual disk would be the best (wish it was out when I did mine) as it holds really good power and isn't as grabby. Nice clutch to run with. My FE is like a switch, on/off.
|
what about pulling a loaded single car hauler with the dual disk clutch?? not everyday, maybe 5 times a month..........

I've had more luck with valair than southbend. So valair IMO. Plus valair has better customer service.

I run a dual disc organic valair in my truck, seems to work really well so far but i haven't pulled anything over 9K yet and i don't have 600hp.
