clutch

I am looking to get a new dual disk clutch. Want to run a south bend but I have been told that south bend clutchs dont hold up as good as vlair. Can you guys help me with the pros and cons of both of them.

Somebody lied to you, I have repeatedly helped customers replace their failing Valair clutches with Southbend Products.

Southbend uses only the best in their product line and while Valair has tried to copy it, it is a cheap copy at best.

I just went through this with choosing a clutch in which I went with southbend.. I just made my decision off the the statistics that I came across, I did searches on all of the boards and the bad discussions about the V clutches way outnumbered the bad posts and threads about SBC so I just simply went with that. Everybody can talk smack and opinion either which way but the math helps put it into perspective. At least it did for me.

What are you doing with the truck? If you're looking more for street driving or racing, you may look into Haisley's street dual disc. I like my southbends, but they are slow to shift, and I have heard numerous times that Haisley's shift like a single disc. Something to look into.

I also just went through the whole clutch deal. Trying to decide what to get. Southbend was a recommended by many and Valair was also. But I had heard that Haisleys clutches shifted fast, and they do. I decided to go with a Haisley Street Drag dual disc clutch, and it shifts like my stock one did, just as fast and very easy to press. I like it so far. Just my experience. Good luck on your decision.

The new South Bend I'm running is a diaphragm operated dual disk clutch like the Haisley street clutches. Light pedal and quick shifts- sprung hub too =) The lever type of clutches like the other South Bends or the Haisley comp would be much better for feeling/controlling clutch engagement for the pullers, but the street dual disks will do fine for most of us. The valair dual disks all look like lever style from what I've seen.
