clearance lights (cab lights) question
I am thinking about getting some clearance lights from the dodge house and putting them on my truck but after talking to some people they have me worring about them leaking since they were not put on at the factory. I am wanting to here from people who have installed them after getting there truck and if they have had any issues with them? If you guys do not recommend doing this please let me know, and if you have had any problems please let me know what I might be getting into.
Thanks. |
I installed lights on mine, and have had no problem. The key is to use a good sealer when mounting them.

NOPE! no leaks here!! did mine 2 years ago and holding up fine! and I even bought the cheap ones from Fleet farm for $27.00, looks just like factory!SEALER MAN< SEALER IS YOUR FRIEND!!:D put it on everyhole you drill!
|
i wanna do this soon too! i hope i get mine sealed good...they look great when done right

If your worried about them leaking use some 3M 5200 sealant . I think WalMart even sells it . Its a Marine sealant we use on boats to seal top to bottom hulls together with . best stuff you can buy.

Yes, but is it easily removable when bulbs need replacing?
Or does the baseplate for these lights mount with seperate screws from the lens? |
I bought my lights aftermarket and had a place install them and I haven't had any leaks what so ever.
|
Clear RTV works as well.

Maybe its just me, but i've got aftermarket ones, and they haven't leaked at all. I didn't use any sealer or anything like that. And no I don't live in the desert, colorado gets snow and the truck sits outside! If you take the liner off you can see where to drill the holes from the inside of the cab. Take your time. Careful though, lights are addictive....kinda like bombing. I've got about 40 marker lights now. Looks awesome in the night....like a big rig! :) [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]
