I saw this on a mechanics truck at Texas Diesel Power, he said it flows almost as good as the expensive intakes most guys run. I'm in college and have a limited budget so I went ahead and put it on my truck, its a filter for an eighteen wheeler. I bought it at Napa on sale for $24. I can tell a small diff in power and boy the turbo wistles now, plus a small improvement in mileage. What do yall think?

Its dry, no support, fits snug against the hood so its not bouncin around

You can down load the template for making the heat shield in the Tech section. Just print it out and tape together transfer to some sheet metal and cut it out.
That's cheap too.

Nice lit'l filter. Looks a lot like the filter I found in the NAPA catalog back in 2001 and named the "Big Honking Air Filter", BHAF.

You need to cover the ac line the filter sits on near the fire wall with a protective cover (heater hose or similar). Also, you can pull the mounting nuts out of the stock filter housing, turn them upside down and install on the mounting studs to insure the studs don't damage the filter.

I also recommend a stiffner made with a 1x4 piece of muffler pipe to insure the filter dosen't deform at the turbo connector pipe connection. If this happens, dirt can enter the engine, dusting the rings.

Back in '01 some friends and I spent a couple of hours, one afternoon, dyno testing different air cleaner combinations on an '01 ETH/DEE. We saw no noticable difference in power between the stock air box and anything else we tried, including the BHAF, no air cleaner at all, and some custom made velocity stacks. Later on, the TDR magazine did a difinative 2nd gen air filter dyno comparison which showed the BHAF actually lost power to the stock box. Their tests showed the only filter which showed any increase in power was the AFE, which was less than 4hp at the wheels.

Fact is the 2nd gen air cleaner is good to at least 500hp with no other alterations than the rubber snorkle removed. Shorten and reinforce the stock snorkle and you've got a decent cold air intake system for no cost at all.

The only area where the BHAF excells is in improved filtration.

Before I installed the 370s and the 62/14 turbo I could pull the filter minder down halfway at full throttle.

That BHAF looks like one of the smaller ones.

That is the same intake I just finished for a guy. The turbo really does whistle more and we noticed a little increase in power as well it is about the exact same as my K&N intake

I believe that's the smaller BHAF I have installed on my truck. It's the NAPA #6637.

what is the filter minder im thinking its the little black round deal. If so where do you put it on the new filter. Does anyone know what the part number is for one for an 06 ctd

I have heard that the bhaf DOES NOT filter as well as the stock box. Is this true or a lie? My next steps are 4 in exhaust which Im ordering this week and then better intake. I will go with the bhaf, if its filtration is equal or better than stock. Thanks
