brake problem
i posted this under the 12v drivetrain and nobody had any ideas so now im hoping to get some here. I have 2 buddys with the same exact problem, above 65 mph the brakes do nothing, you just get the grinding feeling in the pedal like you do when your abs is kicking in. One of them is a 94 2500 auto and the other is a 97 3500 manual. Anybody have some ideas?

anybody have any ideas at all? could it be a abs sensor or something like that?
|
abs module? maybe?
|
i really have no ideas and am completely open to suggestions. also the abs works properly under 65mph
|
Someone correct me iff im wrong but i run most of my dodges with the abs fuse pulled out so it doesnt work. I never had problems yet and lots of ppl also do it here with there trucks. Try pulling the abs fuse and see if it makes any difference.

thanks man, we will try that today

Do they both have 4 wheel ABS? If so, I'd try disabling the ABS as dieselrob suggested. Is the ABS warning light lit on either vehicle? I'd first check the wheel speed sensor signals. It would be a big help to have a scanner, but you can inspect the WSS wiring for breaks, inspect their connections for corrosion, loose pins, etc., and check sensor resistances with an ohmmeter. Also raise the truck and check the frt wheel bearings to make sure neither has a tremendous amount of play.
You'd be surprised how many ABS problems you can solve with the above inspection, and no scanner or lab scope. |
Im one of the trucks that has the problem, The abs light wasn't on but i pulled the fuse out and the brakes work now but the abs light is on since i pulled the fuse
|
you might need the abs reprogramed unless your just goin to run without it
