Brake controller styles

I have to get a new trailer brake controller, what are people using? timed response or inertia response, i understand both systems, just not sure which would work better for icy situations. my old one works full power all the time, so when i am going slow the wheels lock up on trailer, makes me look like i dont know how to set them..

I have 2 types. One is an old Reese hydraulic. Tapped into the vehicle's hydraulic system it works directly proportional to the brake peddle. I prefer it over any electronic unit. Unfortunately they are no longer made. The others is are Tekonsha Voyager and Prodigy P3. Both are proportional and work well. I would recommend either of these. The P3 is more adaptable and may be a better choice for lighter tow vehicles. I use it on my Aspen. The Voyager is fine for heaver trucks, 3/4 up.
