Boost gauge tap
Hey all, got the EGT and FP dialed in, where do I tap the boost? There is a tee for the MAP sensor port, but I thought I remembered another spot that is off the manifold.
I can drill and tap into the intake horn, but will use a stock port if easier.
Thanks, Kurt

You can use a boost bolt adapter that just replaces one of the intake bolts, I'm surprised the gauge kit didn't come with one, here is a link to one from Genos. RLT Boost Adapter for Boost Gauge-Geno's Garage

I have used those boost bolts several times.
They work great.
Just don't crank it down as the bolt is hollow and will snap.

I used the 3/4" plug right beside the MAP sensor. Replaced it with one from the hardware store that has a 1/8" MPT reducer and ran my gauge line there.

SO I got the snubber and boost bolt. The female threads take the 1/8" NPT tap all the way to bottom but both the sensors for the FP and Boost only tap in a short distance before they tighten up.
They are both Isspro sensors and autometer parts, I don't want to gall up the male threads. What gives?

IIRC the NPT is a conical thread- so you won't need any sealant, but the male cone is a little bigger than the female one and you can only turn it in about halfways when new.
(My docs say 1 degree 47 minutes conical NPT Rohrgewinde - Gewindetabellen - Nützliches | innorat.ch )
At least that was what it looked like on my gauge adapters and this also looks like a lot of pneumatic and low pressure hydraulic connections.
There it's like that- if you can get the male part to bottom out something is worn..

You shouldn't get too many turns before its getting really snug but one and a half turns doesn't sound right. Take a tap and see if it'll clean up. Maybe its just a bad thread job.
And even though the threads are conical, I would highly recommend a sealant. No threads will create a perfect seal unless you bear down on them with considerable torque.
Teflon tape is not what I prefer to use on anything either but rather a thread sealant goop in a tube. You can use the plumbing stuff from the hardware store but on my vehicles I use something for automotive applications which wont react with fuels and oils. Trick is not to get any goop on the tip of the threads where that would allow any excess sealant to enter the hole of whatever you're sealing.

Thanks Katoom,
I chased the threads and they were smooth. The Isspro guy said they had an issue a while back so I am waiting a reply....
I use permatex liquid tape stuff and just a little. The male ends don't look very tapered either.
I'm gonna see what Isspro dude says before I get any further.
