Billet Shafts In Autos???
 

Who has broken one? What does it take to break an billet input? My employee snapped his at 35 mph under normal driving.... Cant see how this is possible with a Comp and RV injectors. Was it a bad part to begin with from that place out of Flordia? Its twisted the end clean off of the shaft where it is in the converter. Ill try to post pics later on today.

I have broken a billet output, Stock Intermediate, but never a input shaft. Nock on wood[duhhh]

What kind of shaft was it? TCS, Sonnax. One the time of breakage, He must of damaged it sometime before doing something unless it was just a faulty part. Inputs usually always break under normal conditions, after they've been weakend already.

It was a Sonnex from Suncoast. This has been the 2nd input he has blown apart. Stock one shattered and then this one.

Everything can be broken if you try hard . The thing with the Billet Shafts is thay will only take about 100 to 150 hard runs then there done . So for a guy that dont race but has some power about a year and 20 to 30,000 miles of hard every day running some towing and thats it . So if the stock one made it a month or two your lucky. Sorry it broke , thats the price we pay to play

I have over 1650 1/4 mile runs on my 02, and I have only broken 1 input shaft. It was even an early first run shaft. The truck also has over 130,000 miles since the billet shafts were put in, and I started drag racing it. I must have gotten good shafts!

Is he running a billet (not laminated) flexplate as well? Just wondering. He must be doing something to have twisted it like that...

which brand do you run in the 02?

I'd start checking converter alignment and flywheel alignment and what not. Either he's beating the tar out of that thing or something is tweaked and putting abnormal strain on it. There's no reason he should be busting inputs like that. My stock input lasted for 140k miles with boosted launches and even out lasted the factory transmission.

this is my input shaft. i have a 99 2 boxes 1 fuel 1 timing, i have bosch 275rv injectors, progaurd 7 feeding a 40, bd exhaust man, 150/150 stand pipe and lines, 186... on the clock stock shaft shattered under normal driving conditions goin up hill under normal load, fine replaced with this suncoast new converter an pump, something started chattering so we replaced the stock flex plate with a bd sfi approved one ran fine. now this truck is a daily driver plus it pulls a trailor on the weekends now it occationally will go to the track or pull the sled, but in any case i broke a suncoast input and we (me and redliner) were just pondering how

i guess when i get it back togather ill have to go see my buddy on here down south of twb land and see what kinda numbers it takes to snap something like i did

With 275's and a stock turbo I'm better your pushing 350-375ish. No where near enough to snap a shaft. Life I said, it sounds like something is tweaked and off center and that's what's breaking the shafts. Not your power.

There's a local guy around here that did break a billet suncoast input but he runs the CRAP out of this truck and lugs the engine often by manually locking the converter in 2nd. He is running a BD flexplate. Had to replace the stock one cause the converter bolts came loose somehow and egged the holes. Got to love local trans shops doing work for you.... Any who that may have been when it started to go cause that would make the converter not be in line. Good point camo
