Billet shafts?

About how much hp and torque is the stock input shaft rated for? I think I am getting close to the limit. I was looking into the 3 pc. billet set (input, intermediate, and output) and flex plate, it's looking like close to $3k! Is there any place cheaper to get these from? How difficult is install? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I don't know if you can rate the shaft durability with regards to how much HP. I've heard of stock trucks that tow heavy breaking input shafts.

FYI Stefan and Bill at DTT told me last week not to bother with the intermediate shaft as they are seeing more of the billet ones fail than the stockers?

Key words here are "launch" and reading the signatures seeing the upgrades. I have yet to see a broken input shaft at work, but we never see the "play/race" trucks, just the ones that are driven or used as a tool to pull a trailer.

I dont push mine over 10psi; though i would love too. I dont feel like you could even break a shaft with a stock truck unless it was already weak or something. They say the shafts are a little stronger in these RH trannies anyway, so I should be ok.

From my understanding it's not the input shaft that will break on boost launches, only the output.

The stock input can break on high HP trucks doing locked to locked shifts.

I'd go with just the billet input unless you want to launch the truck, but the RH OUTPUT shaft is stronger than the RE..

I agree w/ Ratsun above...Save the money on the intermediate shaft.

I also agree with needing billet if over 500 hp and towing med or heavy (if your using ALL your HP when towing...most can't, without twins)

Both these recommendations come from DTT which has seen the problems without billet.
MY DTT Input (with billet drum) & Output shafts were $695 & $795 respectively. Are 12v's higher?

That looks familiar. I did the same thing to my output shaft at a less than 12 psi launch.
