BFG Mud Terrains vs. Goodyear MT?R

Alright, gonna order tires soon, jumping up to 315s. I need all possible feedback on these two tires. Basically, I want the mud tread for sled pulling and getting into the cabin up north. During the summer I will be pulling around about 7K 5 days a week, so I'm not worried about how they'll hold up to that. What is the biggest load you've put on your set of 315's?

thanks in advance!

I have had BFG MT's on just about every pickup I've owned. When I put BFG on my 01 CTD I was thinking they'd do great, but they didn't. Infact they down right sucked. In 20,000 miles they were done. They are made of such a hard rubber I couldn't keep traction. Even just letting the clutch out on certain pavements I would spin have way throught the intersection, and if it was wet I'd get no traction at all. The most I hauled with them was about 15,000 a couple times. They held up alright to that, but I was not impressed with how long they lasted on this pickup. The tires I have now have 20,000 on them and you cant hardly tell. I cant comment on the MTR's, but I have heard mixed revues. Some like um other dont.

I'm on my third set of BFG MT's. Each of the previous two warranted just shy of 50K. Now that I've added the PM3 I think I'll be lucky to see 30K from them. I too have wondered about the Goodyear MTR's, but I just haven't done it yet. Maybe next round if I don't man up and get the Rickson 19.5" 's.

Plus if you shop around you can get them for cheaper with some free 17" Hummer H2 rims.

we run MT/Rs on our work F350 4x4, tow 10k Sno-Cat and drive mild off-road. They do well, handle well but don't last more than 25k. I'm a BFG fan and have over 30k on my 37" mudders, a little vibration developing but 1/3 tread left. If you expect wet/slick pavement traction from your mudders you'll be disappointed with most any aggressive tread tire. I'm (probably) going to BFG all-terrains next.

I have heard good things about the AT's, never ran a set personally. Have had a set of 35"BFG MT's, they're great in the beginning, look awesome, but are loud and didn't wear well.

I've had either BFG MT's or AT's on every truck I've owned (on my 5th or 6th now) and always got great life out of the AT's and longer life than I expected out of the MT's.

On this truck however, I don't think I'll see the same life that I did on my Tacoma.

Next tires sadly aren't going to be BFG's unless they come out with an "E" rated MT or AT,
I don't like the sidewall bulge I'm getting on my "D" rated AT's filled to the max psi.

With all the new Diesels coming with 17 inch rims from the factory, if they do make an "E", it will probably be 17 inch, leaving us 16" folks having to shell out $$ to upgrade our rims.

A new twist has been put on. I just recently started looking at Toyo's new sizes in the Open Country M/T. I think I really like what they have, 315/75R16 but they come with a 3,800 lb load rating. Plus, they supposedly cut the tire so that it cancels out the harmonics when running down the road. 4 wheel off road said they performed really well in the mud... Called up Royal Tire and they are only $186 each!!! I think I'm going to order a set today...

I saw a tire today that I was unaware of. It is the mastercraft brand, which is a lower end tire. I sell tires, but one of my friends who also sells tires showed me these. Our wholesale on them was 138 for 305's. They were MT type tires, Drated & really looked good. I have a set of 305 BFG MT's that are approaching 70,000 miles & will still be going another 10 or 15k. I have hauled my D4 CAT dozer many times with no problems. I highly recommend staying away from E rated tires. I tried some for about 3000 miles. They are sitting at my shop. If you air them up according to manufacturer specs, you can't hold your truck on the road. E rated is just way too much unless you have a work body or something that adds more than 5000 pounds to your truck. BFG all the way.

What about mastercraft courser C/T's? How do they wear? I was thinking about a set of those in 285's for my truck.

I know what you asked about but my .02.

I use WOOSUNG's I got about 50K miles out of them, they are quiet and they get good traction. They dont seem to make a difference towing or not. And most inportant they are cheap, about $72 dollars a tire.

A quick .02 about my experience with BFGs, I've had 3 sets and had problems with balancing every time. Every set had a problem. Had to use lots of weights. Had 2 that were egg shaped. Wear like steel though, seemed to have ok traction. For the high cost you'd think they would be round.

If balance is a problem just use balance beads. www.innovativebalancing.com
