I'll say it first. Banks makes a great product. They have been around for a long time. Personally, I think they are to expensive for the power they promise. But since you didn't pay for it, who cares. ;D Have fun and enjoy.

They have been in business for a long time and that has to say something for the product I would think. Drive and enjoy.

Just because a company has a good reputation in the motor sport industry or has been in business for a long time doesnt guarantee they are the best for what your looking for, or are affordable. ;D
Hope that was OK...sad you cant give an honest response.

Re:Banks aftermarket acc.

When I wanted to make my truck faster, I looked into Banks products. What I found was that their products were far more expensive than what I could get from other vendors.

At the same time, they seem to appeal to a different guy than myself. For example, I installed a far less expensive set of parts, and a set of guages that I watch. If I had purchased Banks, I would have spent more, but part of the package is a system that slows fuel delivery when EGTs get too high; something I do with a guage and my right foot on my truck.

I went from 160hp to 375hp for $2,000, but nobody else gets to drive my truck, as they could melt pistons in a short time. The Banks "system" tries to avoid that problem.

Tackett

Re:Banks aftermarket acc.

[undecided] I looked at an Pristine 01 3500 dually that had over $10k in Banks Mods. He dyno'd at 312 . NO bashing
just facts. I passed because I didn't want to spend the time taking it apart. The only thing I would of kept was the Pac-brake!! The local RV Performance Shop ONLY does Banks, So THANK GOD for these forums so we get the Hands-on INFO!! 8)
If I had been on these Forums earlier I would of Skipped the BD Pressure-loc and gone with a VB and Shift Kit instead!!
Just my ROOKIE Opinion

Re:Banks aftermarket acc.

Most people here have never even tried Banks products. They just go on what they have heard from others. Yes they are costly compared to some other products out there.
I agree with BigBlue, be glad you didn't pay the big bucks for it and enjoy it!!

Re:Banks aftermarket acc.

I can only contribute my less than 2c worth of opinion.
Disclaimer: I did never drive a Banks equipped truck, and my conclusions are based on web research and phone calls.

Power claims: Banks state that they use a chassis dyno with a continuous load, not the standard inertia dyno we see at most of the dyno events. Hence numbers can not be compared too easily because the inertia dyno can be spun up too fast in some situations, so that the truck does not come up to full boost during the run. Especially with a system that is designed with EGT-s and emissions in mind this plays a massive role. Due to the low boost the ECU will not inject the full quantity of fuel and therefore will not deliver peak power. A valid comparison in my opinion would be to take a Banks truck claiming to have xxx hp and a differently modded truck with the same hp claims and pull a steep grade loaded to max allowable GCVW, watching EGTs on both trucks and letting off the pedal when it's getting too hot for sustained driving. This would give a real life comparison of performance IMHO.
Reliability: The users of Banks system I know seem to be content with the reliability of their purchase.
Warranty: I can not comment on this issue because warranty is not applicable in my situation and never was.
Marketing: I think that the Banks marketing is somewhat posh- like we have the best, really we are the only ones understanding what happens in a diesel. But I see the same in many other vendors advertisements, and , Hey, they wanna sell their stuff.
Pricing: The major point I didn't go with Banks.
Logic: Banks seems to target a market where you can give your bombed truck to your neighbours boy and tell him to haul this and that over the mountains and get it back without a meltdown. Naturally taking out the responsibility of the driver will lead to a very high measure of investment into security systems and will also lead to bigger exhaust housings etc.
This will lead to a truck that is comparably boring to drive for the average bombaholic.

Now I'm gonna get off the soapbox now ;D

AlpineRAM
Re:Banks aftermarket acc.

Well, my choices were to go with what I had heard from others and pay Banks, or pay somebody else.

Banks isn't going to install 10k worth of gear on my truck than take it back if I don't like it. I have to go by word of mouth - which is why I participate in several Cummins forums.

I got a chance to drive a few trucks before I started BOMBing mine, but nobody offered keys to a Banks truck.

It seems to bother you that people are buying what other guys are using and talking about, but I just don't see another solution. Or perhaps I'm mis-reading what you wrote.

Tackett

[quote author=Dodgezilla link=board=7;threadid=15613;start=0#147268 date=1055151791]
Most people here have never even tried Banks products.
