auto. trans. temp.

I have installed my trans. temp gauge today using output tube 5011244aa in my 2001 Dodge Ram 2500. What kind of operating temp. will be normal stop and go towing crusing etc...? What is the high end?

Just toolin' around town or e-way w/ no load mine usually sits around the 140° or so mark... unless it's stop and go traffic... then it might go up around 180°... If it's really heavy stop and go, I've see around 210° or so... but it quickly goes down once you start moving again...

I have had mine pegged at 250° backing a boat down into the water, but when I check the gauge from the pan it's several degrees cooler, so not really much too worry about...

My line readings match what Tony says. I have also pegged mine climbing a long grade in second. I have a probe in the pan, with my line temp at 250* the pan was only 140*.

Talked to a expert and he said tempatures less than 300* will not harm the new ATF 4+

You are going to be riding a roller coaster with the temp probe in that location. Expect it to hit 250 in some cases, without being any need for worry, but riding down the highway with the TC locked it will drop to 160, or less, pretty quickly.
When pulling with the TC unlocked or in stop and go traffic is when you will see 210 to 250 (it might go higher but my gauge only goes to 250).

When I drag race, with the power-braking to load the turbo on the line, it stays around 210 the whole night.

I don't know about pulling up a mountain with the TC unlocked as I have never done that before.

I have only hit about 210 or so pulling 9000# through the hill country.but like said up there that the tranny will quickly cool down doesnt take very much if you moving cause i think the tranny cooler is in the front right behind the bumper.

okay i just got back from a 4 hour road trip the first one with my new tranny temp gauge. it was all freeway driving . but my tranny temp stayed pegged out at 170 degrees there was a little conjestion but it was primarily a stright shot at 70 mph is this normal?

Sounds normal to me.

Hey Smokee how do you like that ATS? Do you have problems with it heating up while sitting in traffic? We got the FULL SUNCOAST in the race truck..Check Sig.
