air filter oiling ?
 

I am running a K&N filter in my stock air box. I just recently cleaned the filter and i am wondering if anyone else is maintaing these type of filters without oiling them. I have been told by DC that over oiling them can get on the turbo vanes and throw them out of balance,thus damaging them. So i decided not to re-oil. Is this a bad thing or can i do this OK. You need to oil it, just get a reservice kit and follow the instructions. Consensus on the board will tell you to trash the k&n. Do a search on K&N filters and read and make your own mind up. Goodluck,,Rick

K&Ns are good filters if you follow K&N's instructions, most people don't and that's where the trouble lies.
Don't over oil or over service, use grease around the sealing edge.
Many people way over service them, I go 100k between services without opening the airbox even once in-between. There is no one in the world who can tell if a filter is clogged up by looking at it, use your filter minder. Only serviced mine twice in 220k, intake tubes are spotless and oil analysis silicon levels are always low.

I've seen way more problems with BHAFs than K&Ns. Either they fall apart from water or come unhooked from the intake tube.

I know over-oiling these filters is bad for them,that is why i was reluctant to oil it now. Should i go back to the stock filter? Is it that restictive or can i get the same benefit with my listed mods?. Also I was surprised that the manometer showed it at 65% plugged at less than 20,000 miles on it. Are the scotty or other aftermarkets maintained differently? Thanks TG

I have been able to spot a dirty/clogged air filter by visual inspection.
Actually the dirt falling off the filter bottom was my first hint!
