95 5spd 12v Questions
Hi, I have a 95 5sp that I just picked up only 80K and I want to do some mods...Please help me with the order at which to proceed.
My thoughts Fuel Cam (which one?) Exhaust (4"?) AFE Stage 2 Air intake (do I need stage 2 or is the stock air tube the same size) Injectors (which ones for a little smoke but mostly mileage) Dowel Pin...(is there an easy way to check if it has been fixed?) Thanks Everyone ![duhhh] |
First-Things-First
Congrats on your truck!! 80k is amazing to find on a 95...I would suggest that GUAGES be your first purchase. Then, depending on your finances, make what you already have work better: open up the exhaust and the air intake and let the engine breathe! You will notice better fuel economy right away...then you can slide your stock fuel plate forward (a $free mod!) and watch your mileage get better again! If you just HAVE to spend money on it (AFTER the guages), yes...get a #10 plate and have your timing adjusted to 16-16.5* by a recommended shop. Remeber the basics of any engine: easy air in, easy air out, add more bang in the middle! Pretty simple, right? Have fun with your new truck!!

SAVE YOUR MONEY FOR A CLUTCH!
Because its not going to last long. dzlfarmboy is correct, but in between cam plate and and AFC mods you are going to need a good clutch. |

Clutch will hold fine. Mine finally let go at 235k with a 100 plate, hybrid turbo, 215 injectors, and a 4gsk. Maybe I shouldnt have abused it at the strip considering it was plum worn out.
Alot of people beat on the southbend and valair drum but the LUK pro gold will take some serious abuse in a reasonable power application. I have since added a 215 pump, blew up the turbo, and hauled a 15k load atleast 1000 mile now and she is still holding under full throotle with a load. In a couple of months we will see what a S300 will do to it. Dont bother with the stock plate. Grind a 100 to start with. If you find a 180 or 215 pump reasonable you may want to pick it up. The 175 pumps smoke alot more to make less power but can be made to run good and yield decent MPG. |
Thanks for the info...I think I'll go with the stage 1 injectors from pensacolo for right now (unless the stage 2 will yeild the same fuel mileage??). And I guess I'll go with the stage 1 AFE air intake as I've been told the hose on the stock air assembly is the same size as the stage 2 kit. Please let me know if I've been mis-led. Thanks Again!!

The stage1 AFE kit is just perfect. The hose in the stg2 kit is a gimmick, not needed, no benefit.
#10 plate with a GSK is a favorite setup. Or you can cut your own plate if you feel confident enough. Get them gauges on first! |
