So i just built my own trans and im having a few problems wich was expected because this is my first tranny build the truck if you put it in drive acts like its in neutral but if you put it in first manually it goes and drives but slips once you throw into second gear manually it runs super strong all the way through drive and overdrive and it wont start in manual second either im leaning towards the overrun clutch in the back of the main case is it possible to put it in backwards i have been on the cummins forum and Comp D for a few years but i cant find any good help over there and every time i google a trans problem it brings you guys up so i thought i would give it a shot comp d and the cummins forum just like to think there better than everyone else so its hard to find good help they just like to talk crap on everyones build .....yada yada yada sorry for the rant but looking forward to seeing some responses guys thanks a ton

I think you are certainly on the right track. If it in wrong its certainly possible it won't work either direction. A friend of ours rebuilt a 727 years ago and put the over running clutch in backwards and it broke the case as soon as it shifted into 2nd, but they had a slightly different cam and spring design.
The 2nd gear slipping could be that the band isn't adjusted correctly or it be low pressure. Its hard to say, have you check the pressures on the various ports since you rebuilt it?

yes i rigged up an old oil pressure gauge and at idle i have 90 pounds of pressure and my gauge maxes out at 140 and it pegs it when i get on it second gear does not slip it just wont start out in manual second....manual first is the only one that slips and the bands have been adjusted correctly and i even tightend them past spec just to see.....manual first runs off the rear band and the rear clutch and the over run clutch and it goes but slips but in drive first it only runs off the forward clutch and over run clutch and i have nothing .............Im not gonna lie this is over my head....just looking for some good guidence

Ok, sorry I misunderstood you a little bit. You have a better understanding of how they work than most.
If manual first slips, how is reverse? Reverse uses the front clutch and rear band.
Your right, there is deffinately something wrong with the overrunning clutch. Unfortunately your going to have to pull the trans back out and tear it down to almost a bare case just to get all the way back there.

yeah thanks for the help the truck is just a weekend warrior/fun truck its not a daily driver so pulling it apart again is no big deal is there a possibility the overrun clutch is in backwards and i can powerbrake it in reverse til the tires blow so there is no rear band slippage in reverse

I believe there is a spring in the valve body that adjusts your shift points. My transgo kit came with like 2 or 3 springs, one was for the gas v10 motor that is supposed to have a higher shift point. I will be putting it in one day because I cant stand that i'm in 3rd gear by 20mph.

You want the cable adjusted so that you have full travel at full throttle. Have someone hold the pedal to the floor and then adjust the cable to achieve full travel. Too far and you'll be putting excessive tension on the cable at full throttle.
