to 3k gsk or not to 3k gsk

Rebuilt tranny, just got in the #10 plate and 3kgsk. Tst's notes say "tst recommends use of the gsk with only the #10 torque plate with 215 hp engines or the #4 torque plate with the 160-180 hp engines, vehicle may run worse than stock if recommendation is ignored"

I have the 98 12 valve auto which I think is the 180hp. Should I put in the gsk?

I put the 3gsk in my '98 (180Hp). I had a Banks Kit in it already which used (I think) about a #10 plate. At first it didn't perform right. Then I found that the GSK caused the gov. lever to pass below the plate. I adjusted it and shazaam, instant power all the way to 3200RPM. It ran like a turpentined cat.

Danavilla hit the nail on the head. If it doesent run good, adjust the governor arm, and you are back in business. When I had my old plate in my truck and put the GSK in, I had to adjust the governor arm, but it was sweet after that.

Siebertl,

Check out http://www.piersdiesel.com/TechLeverAdj.htm

Be VERY careful not to back off the screw too far and drop it in the pump.

YES! That sucks. MAKE SURE you tighten the holding nut tight enough or it will back off some miles down the road. After tightening, re-check the adjustment to make sure the lever doesn't fall below.

I like it better than the 3k I had for sure. Has more pull all the way around. The small pumps seem to give out not much after 3k, so I didnt gain many rpm's overall, but I do like the way the truck runs better.
