315's showed up before leveling kit; can I run them?

I got my new 315-70R17 BFG A/T's, but my leveling kit is still not here... The tire shop wants to stuff them on tomorrow morning; Is there room in the front to run the 315's w/o the leveling kit for a few days of GENTLE freeway driving? Or do I have to wait for another appointment from the much-overcrowed tire shop after I get the leveling kit (hopefully UPS tomorrow afternoon...)? As you might be able to tell, I would like to get them mounted now, but if there's no room, I'll have to live with it :'(

I have 33" X 13.00" X 18" on the truck with out a leveling kit. They rubbed today for the first time with the wheels barely turned and hit a huge bump, but once I turned it harder it stopped. I removed the air dam before hand. It would probably rub that.
Commando - what backspacing is on your wheels? I have only seen aftermarket rims with 4.5" of b/s, and I figured that would make the tire contact the rear edge of the fender when turning, especially if the tire is stuffed at all? So for now, I am running the stock aluminum rims. However, if you tell me I can safely run 4.5" of b/s with no rubbing, I may just have to spend more money... ;D

TWZ, I’m running 315’s and was in the same boat yer in when I first got mine. Tires showed up way before the kit >. Folks claiming that 315’s won’t rub w/o the kit on must be runnin bald tires. W/O the kit there gonna rub! I don’t think it would do much damage if you ran em for a few days tell you got the kit, at least it didn’t fer me. When they rub it’ll sound like the fender’s coming off, and it'll cause a bit of scuffing, but that’s about it. LOL. I still get a little rub on mine every once in a while even w/the kit. If you run them on the stock rims the center of the tire will wear thin much faster than the rest of the tread. I know from past experience, getting flats when yer out wheelin sucks . So if ya got the extra $$$, get a flashy set of wider rims to go w/the look of the new meats.
Good Luck, 8)Buck 8)
put some 315 BFG AT/KO's on a 2500 24V QC SB 4x4 earlier this week......RUBBED LIKE HELL! He didn't even have full lock to lock. He had to go home and put his stockers back on.....(I work with his dad) his dad originally asked me if they'd fit cause he knew I drove a 2500 and I told him they would : then afterwards he asked what could be done so I told him about the Skyjacker 2.5" coils....he ordered them the next day! ;D

Every truck is different.
They can look exactly the same, even have consecutive VIN's, but one will take the 315's no prob, the other will rub like heck.

I started with a 2inch leveling kit with my 315's.
Rubbed like heck when turning.
(choice of rims no doubt)

Decided to go with the 4 1/2 lift.
No rubbing whatsoever, even had it stuffed pretty good a couple of weekends ago.

I know, 2002 and 2003, apples and oranges.
(ok, maybe granny smith and red delicious)

Once again.

Every truck is different.

Hey Phox, When you changed from the 2" to the 41/2" lift what did you have to add/change? I know the springs need to be changed but any additional brackets. I am faced with the same problem as you had. My 315's rub on full lock just going up my driveway with the 2" kit.

Thanks
Frank

New front springs.
Trackbar relocation bracket (drivers side)
Sway bar relocation(drop) bracket. (2, frame side)
New longer control arms (top and bottom, 2 sets)
Top control arm relocation bracket (2, one for each side)
Front brake line relocation bracket (2, one for each side)
Longer rear spring U bolts(4, 2 for each side)
Add-a-leaf on rear springs (2, one for each side)
Angled block addition for rear springs (points the pinion up more, 2, one for each side).

I think thats all the parts

Where are you rubbing?
Rear inside of fender or control arms?
The extra lift will fix the fender rub but only aftermarket rims with less backspacing will fix the control arm rub.

Re:315's showed up before leveling kit; can I run them?

I'm actually rubbing on the outside edge of the fender. I trimmed off the sharp edge (not much to cut) and it still rubs the sheet metal and part of the inner plastic liner. I am just wondering if the best way to resolve this is to go ahead with the 4 1/2 lift. How difficult was it to install? I would like to do it muyself if possible to save a little. The last lift I did was on a 78 K5 blazer. I know a lot has changed since then.

Frank.

I paid to have mine done.

It shouldn't be that hard if you have the tools and the talent and the space to do it in.

Yup, that's where mine was rubbing as well.

phox
