2nd Gen. Tranny's

I am in need of an all out competition tranny, but my God, they are priced out of this world! It's getting so a workin man can't afford to have a play toy. I have checked around with all the larger companie's alway's mentioned here, all about the same. Now I'm not saying I talked to everyone, and I'm not trying to start a war. I just needed to find someone that will sell me a tranny for a fair price. I believe a man should make a fair living if he's good at what he doe's. If anyone has a good used one laying around for a 97 4x4 laying around pm me, or a good REASONABLE vendor, gimme a shout. Thank's, Gary

Have you talked to Dave Goerand? My tra nny & TC will hold up to 500 HP and it was $3,800 installed! Included new lines, new flywheel, new bearing, new rearmain seal, all fluids.

I'm doing mine piece by piece. I'm gonna have a new TC and all new clutches and seals and what not put in for about $3300 installed. Then when funds permit I'm gonna add the billet stuff.

um, $3-4k isn't pocket change to me but it's a pretty reasonable price to build an auto that'll hold up to ~500hp/1,000ft-lbs in a 7k++ lb truck. I 'saved money' getting my 'performance billet' converter/rebuild from a cheaper place and the trans let go 11k miles after, luckily the shop was forced to cover it under warranty because i took it to a different ATRA shop that knew more about the diesels and knew what the first shop did wrong(original shop still said it wasn't their problem, which means they would've charged me if I took it back to them...that was Performance Transmission in Visalia, btw).
I do find it odd that you want an all out competition trans with a mild rebuild price tag...
give dave goerend a call, you won't be disappointed and you will be paying a very fair, reasonable price for what you get.

That's all I'm asking, it seem's everyone is stuck on $6500.00 or better. Now if they were to do the install, and give a decent guarantee, I would'nt complain a bit. This ain't my first rodeo, I'm getting out of the Powerstroke's for the same reason. Horsepower cost money, and in a Ford I can't justify it. Therefore, I now own a 97 Dodge Cummin's.

Either way you look at it, and auto is gonna cost you if you want to make some serious power!! Granted you can get away with not adding all the billet goodies but then you risk breaking a shaft and possibly destroying other things along with it.

Now you said you want an all out performance tranny......how much power are you looking to push?? Maybe you wont need the billet stuff, and that is where the majority of the money comes from.

What are your plans for the truck, are you going to Drag Race, sledpull? Like others have mentioned, you can get a strong built trans that will hold some power, but when you start adding in billet parts, the price goes up quick. If you want a strong towing machine, then you could probably get away without using billet parts, but once you start racing and sledpulling, billet is a must cause things go snap when playing.

The billet shafts alone are about $700 a piece give or take $50. So if you want all 3 billet shafts (input, output, intermediate) then that right there adds on another $2100. I don't have any connections or anything. I just talked to my tranny builder and told him my current power level and what my budget is and what I want/need for now to hold where I'm at and we went from there.

My plan's are for between 500 to 700 hp, single turbo (SP66) no drug's (yet), and alot of 1/4 mile drag racing (I can't seem to get anybody in Florida to pull a sled) it look's fun. I think the billet input, and intermediate shaft's would be the way to go for draggin, that way the output shaft could be the "FUSE" so to speak. It's a lot easier to replace than the other's. Oh yea, and a set of extrude honed 370's. I forgot what billet cost these day's. My bad.

you said you had no problem paying the money if it was installed by them and the labor and product are warrantied ? I bought an ATS Stage 4 transmission.. Which comes with a High Performance Valve body, Billet Flex Plate, Billet Input Shaft and an amazing Torque Converter which is rated for 100% lockup up to 2000 ft/lbs.. This also comes with a Torque Converter controller module.. this allows you to change the MPH at which the TQ locks up (from 18 MPH up to 60 MPH). Mine is a 47RE 4x4 replacement trans.. The tranny and an Arc Flow intake elbow all installed at ATS's main shop in Denver, CO was $7200 even.. They worked the labor/parts around so that tax wasnt so big.. Since it was done at their shop and there was obviously no dinking with the Core Charge.. But this trans is warranteed for 150k miles or 3 years.. no matter how you abuse it

btw, if you schedule with them you can be in and out of there in one day.. just drive the truck there, and drive out with a new very impressive trans in the same day.
