Re:2500 wheels & tires on 3500 front axles?

Just by installing the 2500 wheels, you have "spacers" since the wheels do not have the bud design. They look really cool, but are hard on the side of the truck since they stick out past the fenders.
I am not sure, but I imagine that the 2500 on the 3500 hubs would be hard on wheel bearings since the centre of gravity would move outward...chime in, anyone.
george

Re:2500 wheels & tires on 3500 front axles?

I've seen a 3500 with regular 2500 front wheels on it. They didn't stick out any more than they do on a 2500. I've been told the 2500 and 3500 have the same front axle. The 3500 just uses an adapter bolted to the hub, and the dually wheel mounts to that. In order to put the 2500 wheels on the front, just remove the dually wheel adapter from the hub. Then you can bolt the 2500 wheel directly on just like on a 2500.

I've not verified this personally since I have a 2500, but after I found this out I checked it against the factory repair manual. From what I could tell, the manual seemed to suggest the same thing. However, I would think it would present a problem in carrying a spare tire, since you have to carry a rear spare and a front one.

OK. On the 2wd the hub and adapter on the 2d gen are one piece. You can still put the 2500 wheels on...they stick out because they do not have the bud design.
They look really cool!
I understand that there's a way that 3500 owners can run wider tires on the front -- it has to do with getting "spacers" and then setting up with 2500 wheels. This would be useful for those of us with 4x4's who spend time off road.

Has anyone done this? Any information anyone can give on how's, problems, who sells it?

Also, anyone know what an "equivalently-tall" but wider tire size would be for the 255-85 (larger than the stock 235-85) I'm running on the rear duallies? Or is it time to get out the tape measure?

Thanks. GP
Gear Poet,
The 305/70/16 is roughly the same height but is 2" wider. That may be your only option for same height. A buddy has them on his 2500 with no problems. Just a slight rub on the control arm at full lock on the left. Not sure if you would have this problem or not. Something to look into tho.
