#10 plate question - What next

I recently installed a #10 plate in my 98 12 Valve and did not notice much if any increase in power. I turned the star wheel out a little and it helped, but I was expecting a little more out of it. EGT's seem to run lower, and I can build around 21 pounds of boost. I did not have the truck too long before the #10 but I am almost sure that I was seeing more boost with the stock plate.

I think I will do a 3000gsk but that is just what I gathered from reading posts.

Any suggestions from here?

I did get the #10 off Ebay (New) and plan to check it against my stock one to see if there is a size difference. Also, the break-off screw was still in place and unharmed so I assume that the plate I took out was stock.

Lastly, the truck is a 5 speed, KDP, Gauges, K+N air filter.

Thanks

Put some gauges in it

adjust your governer arm, and run it a bit farther forward.... and yes teh GSK is a night and day difference over stock governer springs... id go 4K if i was you..

I'd go 4gsk and heavy valve springs...And slide the plate about 1/16" from full forward

I will adjust the governor arm a little bit and move the plate around some.

Great advice on the gauges, but that is actually the first thing I did with the truck. KDP shortly thereafter.

Stupid question, but where can I purchase the spring kit at?

Thanks again.

I'm happy with my 3k springs, don't need valve springs then. but I'm gonna add them now due to wanting an exhaust brake.

oh, i bought mine at tstproducts.com also you can get them at any diesel shop, even cummins. piersdiesel.com is my second pick.

Rereading that you only get 21 psi, something is really wrong, you should be getting 32psi boost, with a 10 plate on a 98 nets 330hp ? according to Piersdiesel.com chart

For each horsepower, you should get 1psi boost, ie. 100 hp 10 lbs boost
200 hp 20psi boost etc.

Check your intercooler hose clamps for leaks, and intercooler boots, especially near the fender for holes or rub marks.

Do you hear any hissing/leaks at 21psi?

Update

Found the problem; I think I screwed up [duhhh]

I installed the # 10 according to the installation instructions (or so I thought). I had the plate slid all the way towards the rear of the engine.

I took it apart, moved the plate forward and bolted it back together. At the same time I also plugged the waste gate line with a bolt.

Now the truck drives like a Cummins :) and I see why a clutch will be in my future.

I was able to get an easy 25 lbs of boost and it was **** fun to drive.

Thanks for the help...Should have got a 12-Valve from the start!

Ea. 1lb = 10HP Rule of thumb

Dodge12vKing 09-07-2007 01:57 PM

I have a 98 12v and only have a #10 plate, starwheel cranked quite far. Most boost I've ever seen out my truck is 29lbs. boost.

With just the #10 plate, stock injectors, stock turbo, the boost was hitting the limit at 36 psi, which is the boost elbow setting from TST. With the plate FFW and sliding the AFC, it was more fuel than the stock turbo can handle.

I would get the gsk spring kit. citydiesel.com has some good prices on the 3 and 4k kit. I've got a 100 plate full forward and the most I see out of my is 40lbs. I've got a boost elbow that came with an edge juice.
