So tonight I'm coming home and I live on a 1 way street and some guy in 45ft tour bus tried to turn around and got hung-up in the driveway, (engine pan/frame lodged on driveway). So I thought I'd try and help him out. I got out the tow strap and chain, hooked up, dropped down into 4wd and went to work. Well, no go! Engine didn't lug a bit, clutch started to smoke, fully released. Well that put an end to my bragging rights. O'well. I guess I need a bigger clutch?
Alright call me dumb, stupid, macho. But, who out there wouldn't of tried to move a 40k bus sitting on its frame?
(.......Note to self....... When a bunch of guys standing around saying," that things got a Cummins in it, it can move it, think twice, or make sure you got a new South bend clutch intalled.)

Begle that won't do anything, put it in third run up the RPM's and let her rip, that's the only way to do it. That way no matter what happens bystanders are gonna be impressed.

For the record I said to fully engage the clutch and coast to the snug level because I thought that you were smoking your clutch trying to engage it from a stand still; then I read the original post again and figured that was stupid to say...

4 LO and a little room to "****** er loose" and it would've moved.
I had a bus stuck halfway in my workshop bay with the engine apart, brakes locked and in gear. I couldn't leave it that way because we couldn't close the bay door to go home.
My buddy tried his 3/4 ton chebby in 4 low ...
Then I hooked up, dropped it in 4 lo and asked them "Where do you want it ?". They laughed until I started draggin it about 15 feet ... they said "That's probably good right there
"
I had the pictures on here somewhere but they got lost a while back.

yea you shoulda just gave the strap about 5-10 feet of slack and got a running start. its kinda scary at first but it works. just don't do it with a chain. I pulled my fathers 150K$ motor home that was buried to the frame in sand out with one tug like this. I think I had about 20 feet of slack with a 75 foot rope though. momentum works wonders.
Back when I owned my 92 CTD we had a driver get a loaded tractor trailer stuck in the mud on our lot. These guys were hooking up F150 and forklifts to it but nothing could budge it. I went out and told everybody to clear out and hooked a chain to the bumper. I put it in 4lo and I spun 1 revolution while the chain straightened out and that truck came right out of that mud. Needless to say I was the hero of the day and I was beating the girls off with a stick and.............
Never pull in 4 high. You need the gear reduction that 4 low has to offer, and you would not have seen 2000 rpm's and it would have been out. These trucks are hosses when you put it in 4 low, if you have traction, either the object will move or you will here a loud bang somewhere under your truck, cause something WILL give.
