siping is small, well, i guess best desribed as small uniform slices, not sure if done at factory or tire shop designed to let the tire spread and grip i believe. Im a cooper s/t man myself, year round. great in the snow, good in mud and long life on the pavement. on my old dodge gasser in alaska i had 2 winters of driving, seward was the hardest on them, studs are needed for the freezethawfreeze cycles. for normal powder, or even wet stuff on pavement, the cooper s/t is great.

I typed it wrong, its siping. It is the little fine lines cut or molded into the tire like the ones shown on the Toyo HT a few posts above this one.

Here are some links with more info:

Wow, I'm surprised more people didn't know about siping. We've been running siped tires around here since the 80's. Of course where we live you need them. I was thinking about the Toyo HT, Silent Armor or maybe some Nitto Terras siped to run this Winter.

Well...after a lot of thought about what you all have said, and other factors...

I pulled the trigger today on a set of 4-285/75/R17 Toyo A/T's...should be in next Weds.

I chose them because they won't look too small on my truck(I hope),

their E-rating(most important), and I can get them locally for a decent price.

I searched hi and lo for someone locally who does siping, and got looks...

I do not feel comfortable buying tires over the 'net or phone...

So hopefully I will be satisfied with my choice

Those should look and work great! The 'A/T' Toyos already have siping from the factory. I don't see a real need to add more siping to those tires.
