Window tint?

Howdy folks,
I'm getting the windows on my truck tinted on friday, but I'm having some problems figuring out what shade I want them. I'm basically wanting to get it to the point that you can't see into the truck very well at all, but I don't want to get it so dark that it makes it real hard at dark. Right now I'm marked down for 15%, but I was thinking about maybe getting it down to 10%. What do you's think?

Thanks,
*****

You can always go darker, start out with the 15%, have them do it on one window so you can take a look at it, then either go darker, or have them finsih up the other windows.

I had 15% on the sides, 5% on the back of my old Trans Am, and it was like you want, cant really see in during the daytime, but wasnt too dark at night.
I think if I ever get around to tinting my truck, ill do 15% up front, 5% on the back doors.

my friend got the "presidential tint" on his charger, it's like 15% rear window 25% everywhere else (except the windsheild which is like 2%) it's weird though cause you can still see out at night perfectly fine

Go as dark as the law allows. My back and rear sides are "factory dark" (came that way) and I had the front sides are tinted as dark as the state of Texas would allow...15%, I think. It's not easy to see in during the day, and almost impossible to see in at night. Seeing out is not a problem.

I had 15% years ago in another car I owned and I had to drive with the windows cracked down half way at night in areas with alot of stop signs, so I could see safely.... 15% was pretty dark at night and evening hours IMO.

I tinted windows for a while and rolls of tint are rated on the amount of light they allowed to pass through them. (this was professional tint not that crap you can get from a discount store) For example 5% is basically limo black, it only allows 5% of light to pass. I did my previous car in 20% which was very close to the factory tint on the rear windows of a quad cab truck, or SUV. I did most of my semi's and my current dodge in 35% which is dark enough to see that there is someone in the truck but not light enough to tell who it is. I suggest not getting any tint that makes a glare on the inside, some brands are worse than others. They are annoying because when you try to look out of the drivers window you see the reflection of what's outside the passengers window. Personally I'd find out what your states laws are and try to stay around that. Here in Ohio mine at 35% are not legal but they're not dark enough to stand out. I got 4 tickets in my previous car so I didn't want to go through that hassle again with this truck.

I almost forgot. Not that it matters to most but keep in mind all glass has a slight tint to it. By that I mean if the legal limit in your state is 50% which I believe it is/was here in Ohio. You can't legally put 50% tint on the windows because when the "nice" officer tests them they will actually be down to like 40%. Don't ask how I know this.

Only problem with that is I'm getting it done while I'm at work. I think I'll be illegal with whatever I do so that aint to much of a concern, I just want it to look cool, and maybe help keep the cab cooler while it's sitting out in the fields I'm working in this summer.

This is a difficult choice. Different tint shades definitely look different on different cars. Everyone in earlier replies made comments on their other vehicles. Truth is they all have different shapes. The sun enters each window at different angles. Other things to note, color of interiors also show differently. Many factors to consider. Didn't mean to confuse you.

I actually wasn't referring to you directly. I have a friend who bought a roll at Wal-Mart and wanted me to install it. I refused and showed him why. The good stuff is thick and has a strong scratch resistant layer on it. The stuff he has looked alot like the plastic wrap you'd use to wrap up cold meat only with a tint to it.

That's good. A black truck with dark windows doesn't stand out as bad as a white truck with super dark windows.

Here's a link to the laws of each state. Since I see your from Indiana and they're law is 30% you'll be pretty safe with whatever you choose. Where as if you were from IL they don't allow any tint on the side windows so 20% would scream for a ticket.

i always go 5 % and role my windows down if I need to at night. You get used to it after awhile and at least after you get it that dark you wont have to worry about going darker and you dang sure dont have to worry about seeing in.

***** that would look like 35% to me because once all the windows are tinted they look darker when u look in. I have 5% tint on my back window, and the only way u can see in very well is if theres bright sky in front as u look through the back but then u still can't make out faces really, just shapes. I'm gonna do 20% on my side windows pretty soon for the summer.
