Winch Advice

I do some hunting in some generally rough country in the backwoods of east Texas, where 4x4 is a necessity. For better insurance, me, my father in law, brother in law have decided that we need a winch. We all put front receiver hitches on our trucks rated for 9000lb. Next comes the winch. Since we are cheap, we would like to get 1 winch that we can share for all 3 trucks.

Realistically, the winch would only get used for a couple of weeks a year in October (if at all). Because of that, we have decided that a Mile Marker 12,000 lb winch would suite us fine. Its not a Warn, but given our frequency of use, it won't get used much a year so we think the lesser quality Mile Marker should hold up. I have heard that the 12K lb electric winch from Mile Marker is a re-branded Ramsey. Not sure it is is true.

The price is definately appealing. 12K lb Mile Markers can be had for under $600. 12K Warn go for $1100+.

Anyway, looking for some advice on people who use the Mile Marker for their 3/4 ton, 1 ton trucks

Even with the infrequency of use, I'd choose Warn.

That being said, the Milemarker 12K electric should be plenty.

Some reading... It doesn't address your question directly but is worth the time.
I think I can safely say, if handled incorrectly your winch can prove deadly (snapping cable etc.)

Why not..

if the winch is gonna be used three ways, split the costs 3 different ways.. 400 a pop for a good winch? or it can be as little as 70 dollars for a good winch. I dont know anything about mile markers, but if the military uses them they must be good... I have seen nothing under 9500 lbs on these dodges, i have a friend with a Ramsey 12K winch on a ram like yours but dual rear wheel, and he used it the other day to pull his truck out of a slippery mess.. He wasnt stuck too bad mind you, just u know how stock tires are.. and that ramsey for bein 800 bucks pulled that ram out like it was nothing.. he wasnt even helpin it or anything.. just put it in neutral, press button and enjoy....
