Will NYC be the next New Orleans?

Just asking. The national news is taking jabs at the folks walking the streets in Times Square. The running joke is that all the folks are shoppers from Britain looking for American Girl bags. Maybe they are, maybe they're not.

But... should NYC get hit as hard as they're predicting, will the residents that stayed (and it looks like allot did) pull together like after 911 or become professional victims like they did in New Orleans?

I'm betting they pull together.

i figure the best way is to look at the percentage of earners and takers...

The more earners, the fewer 'katrina' type refugees (who simply insist the government take care of them). And for all those who may explode, or raise an eyebrow by that comment, it has absolutely nothing to do with race!!!

I would say this is the reason that you don't see looting or anything like that with all the flooding that happens in ND, and SD with the red river. People come together to fight it.

EXACTLY!!! And lets not forget Tennessee and all the floods they had there. Hardly even a news report. Heck I'll bet most people didn't even know half of Billing, MT was underwater earlier this year!!!

Many restaurants are no longer open for business in New york City and the question is, where will people eat this weekend?

Ahh the Rotten Apple. . . Good place to not be near anytime. Have to remember NYC is marked as the greatest city in the world. The fanfare will be over bearing. I live here. . .

There is so much conflict on the TV. I never saw a storm with 2 eyes. What was that about professional victims?

That's because "when the going gets tough, the tough get going" I live suburban and almost completely self sufficient.

The rats are in fammon

I got called to run as a stand-by driver for the hospital EMS. I've been part of their Diaster Response team as a Team Leader for over 30 years. We have quarterly drills but have not been activated in 11 years until today. So far, we evaced part of a nursing home and responded to a multi-vehicle accident on Rt 80, (NYC Evac Route) with injuries.

Just got back, cloths change #1. I live right across the street from the hospital, so my team and I get to stay here. I'm too old for the back so I just drive and support my team as a gopher and incident commander. My certifications are expired, but I remember the bycicle. I do the gopher stuff because it is for the benefit of my team and the patient. Nothing like being on both sides of the spectrum. . . LOL

The nursing home was precautionary and rightfully so. The river, some 200 feet away has been at the edge of the road for all this week. My daughter is the charge nurse there and uses her head. Without consulting with me, as she usually does, she and the owner decided to remove all bad patients and all of the first floor. Some of the mobile ones from the first floor refused to leave. So they stay until they decide to remove the rest of the residents.

Can you imagine an old man arguing with an old woman with a cane who is old enough to be your Mom? I lost that one.

Sorry to cut you short Rick
