Red face Where/How do you Guys Clean your Dogs?

So my Bluetick pup Diesel is now 6 months old, he just keeps growing & growing. Since he was a few weeks old I've always taken him in the shower with me and bathed him, hot shower of course. Everyone has always made fun of me for taken him in the shower with me. So i was just wondering how you guys clean your dogs, to make sure I'm not the only crazy dog lover out there.

I take mine to my vet. Sometimes he'll come here. It costs me some money, but it's a good way to keep up with shots and other requirements.

I'm called a Hillbilly/Redneck all the time. I used to take my Hounds to "Pets mart" or is it "Pet smart" in the past but they've just gotten too $$$. I did luck out one time @ Petco. I took the Hound in for a bath and it just happened that, that same day Petco was having a group of students spend the day @ the store, career day, and for use of my Hound for the day they groomed/cleaned him up for "FREE" for me! You cant beat that.

My old German Shepherd was as much a water dog as the Labs are. We often went to the lake after training for a cool down bath. He loved it. For you working dog people try doing protection work in or across abody of water. We used to train the dogs to swim to the other side to pursue the bad guys. I think the dogs had as much fun doing this as we did watching them. Never saw a dog shake coming out of the water after the bad guy as they were so intent on the chase.

I also used the water hose at home and trained him to jump in the tub for a shower. I even trained him to shake under a towel.

The Boxers loved to get the hose in the flues and just let the water flap them around. It must have felt good going bblluuubbberrrr

I used to take them (I have 4) to a self-service dog wash place.. about $15/ea. Elevated tubs, shampoo provided, professional drying machines, and best of all, you don't have to clean up a thing when you're done.

That started getting pricy, so I built a platform, got an extra bathtub, and plumbed in my own dog wash in the garage, complete with hot/cold water. For drying, I use the output of a shop vac routed through an old hair dryer to warm it up. You need 2 circuits to do that though.. Hey, it was cheap. Real dog dryers start at over $150.

When you have 4 dogs, its a lot to wash.

I have 2 male english mastiffs, both over two hundred pounds and have not found an easy way to bathe them. but I really don't think I would want to be in the shower with them for several reasons! LOL

Buckshot-
If the dog will go in with you and let you wash him, that's the easiest way there is. And you are not alone. My Sister-in-law's mom has washed all her dogs this way. She starts them off when they are puppies, and she says the hard part is keeping the dog out of the shower when she doesn't want to wash (or have to dry) the dog. My dog hates being washed. In summer I will wash her on a table in the yard, in winter in the bathtub. It's always a struggle to keep her where I want her, I would love it if she'd just hop in the shower with me.

The dog we had when I was growing up was like that. Hated baths, but if he wandered off 99 times out of 100 I'd find him in the creek.

Well, you get out the old pressure washer and crank it up to about 3500 pounds, and the dirt just goes away.

Nah, I just take the hose to the one Rottie, she loves it and tries to eat as much water as she can. Now the other Rottie and the Shepard, they are different stories. You have to kinda sneak up on them and be gentle cause they both hate the water. My old Rottie that I had to put to sleep, she loved the water. When we would go to the river, I had to almost threaten her to get her out.

Whatever you do to get them clean, make sure you clean their ears real well. They will love you for ever if you take care of them right.
