Where to find 5HP 1Ph electric motor?
Anyone know of a good place to find a 5 HP 230V single phase electric motor for a decent price? I'd take a used one if anyone has one. I need it for my 12 inch wood planer. I need counter clockwise rotation facing the shaft.
I've tried Grainger, Northern Tool, and Ebay. They all want and arm and a leg for them! Any ideas or any of your local stores you know of that I could contact? Thanks for any help! |
try a electrical wholesale supply house. if you know a contractor with an account better yet, 1/2 an arm and no leg.

Take a look at Tractor Supply Company... Pretty decent quality motors they had on the shelf. Comparable prices with Northern with their chinese made stuff.
They were made in USA and Mexico. Not CHINA... I was Primarily looking for a 1hp motor for my old Craftsman table saw but I did notice they had some bigger single ph. stuff too. K. |

Most of the motor rebuild shops I've dealt with have some used motors. WWG "farm duty" = light duty, usually a 1.0 service factor. Harbor Freight = junk, I doubt if they are really the hp they say! Not at continuous duty, anyway. Get ~ 3450 rpm - they work a lot better on high speed tools. Craig

I bought a 6.5 hp 230v single phase that is CCW/CW a few weeks ago at Tractor Supply for $185.00...tag said made in USA.

buy a baldor motor. If it last you a year, it will last you forever.

I disagree with the Harbor Freight being junk. We have two five-horse single-phase Harbor Freight Marathon motors, that are mounted on two seperate very large air-compressors that have been running pretty much non-stop during business hours, for several years, with never a problem. It is sad to say, but both have outlasted the American made motors that they replaced. As to rotation direction, to reverse rotation, simply swap the connections of wire numbers five and eight. |
Try surpluscenter.com they sell electric motors.

Get your RPM requirements(3600 sounds correct) and send me a pm, I work for a Baldor distributor as well as many other mfg.
I'll get you as good a deal as can be had (apples vs. apples that is) tom |
