Where do you live?

I am thinking of moving some where soon. Where do you live and what does it have to offer. I would like to know the unemployment rate if you know it? I am a Army veteren and a Mechanic by trade. I have worked over sea's for the last 2 year's and now it's time to live in the Good Ole USA.

Re:Where do you live?

I live in Northwestern Lower Michigan. If you look at the back of your left hand, (as the lower penninsula of MI) I live at the outside of the small finger about half-way up the fingernail. Leelanau County, about 25 miles northwest of Traverse City overlooking Lake Michigan. This area is a four season outdoor sports and recreation area. Main industry is tourism and agriculture. This is probably the most beautiful part of Michigan. Lots of lakes for the summer, the best snow skiing in the midwest within an hour of Traverse City. Very low crime area, especially in Leelanau County. Very pleasant place to live. Real estate prices are a bit higher here than the state average because of the quality of life and the environment. Our unemployment rate is usually comparable to the rest of the state, and I'm not sure what that is right now.

We have a higher than average population of retirees, and they all need to have their cars fixed. We have a great hospital and healthcare system here. You can get our local daily newspaper on line: Traverse City Record Eagle at recordeagle.com

That should help you get a feel for the area, and local employment opportunities. Good luck in your search!

I live in Twin Cities Minnesota. You get all four seasons with a heathly economy with only 4% unemployment. The fastest growing area in the midwest and you can still buy land. 5 million people in the state with half in the twin cities.

15k lakes, 400k hunters, 2 million fishermen, down hill, cross country skying, snowmobiling and Oh yeh! ICEFISHING...
Good luck on your move. 8)

Re:Where do you live?

I agree with Srigs- only I live a couple of hours north of him. There are ALL KINDS of activities around here and where I live I have 10 acres of land and am one of the few around the area that are even hooked up to a sewer line so no mound system. There is even a new big truck repair facility right down the road!!
Tom

As a place to vacation, we love Savannah. Don't know what it's like to live there, though. pappyman is from there, I'm sure he could fill you in.

Yes I live in Savannah....I didnt want to push Savannah on you But Its A Good area to live in...there are alot of retired army livin in the area too...the weather is mild in the winter and Hot Hot Hot in the summer (thank god for A/C) I work outside so once you get use to the heat its not that bad...once you get away from the tourist area (River Street) its like any usa town and yankees are treated better in Savannah then other deep southern towns...and deep sea fishing is common along with fresh water fishing....heres a link to the local web site

http://savannahnow.com/

Re:Where do you live?

I'm here in central Arkansas about 20 miles west of Little Rock. The cost of living isn't bad, the pace is a slower, and opening day of deer season is considered a state holiday. Lots of retired military here due to income tax bennies. I've been all over the world and I still end up back here.
I work at Camp Robinson (National Guard training site) as a missile maintenance tech. Pay is not bad. Good mechanics are always in demand.
If you like to hunt and fish, we have lots of both. The only problem I have is I don't have enough time to do as much as I would like.
Land prices aren't bad. Depending on where you're at, land goes for $500 - $5000 per acre. I bought 45 acres for $1250/acre.

shortround out
