I'm a 50/50 Bike commuter.
Gotta be above 50 degrees and less than a 50% chance of rain. ;D
Wifey and I car-truck-bike pool so I don't ride when she don't. 'Cept on weekends and days off of course.

Here is some more info on Bio-Diesel.
Bio-Diesel
I'd like to try it and see how it does, maybe then I could go to the oil company and show them I think they are #1 in my book.

But compared to what I used to have to spend I don't complain very much. I try to remember what John McIntyre and AlpineRam and other DTR members in Europe are paying.

DW
[/quote]

I'm not complaining very much either but I still don't like it. Atleast it (the fuel or gas) is there every time I go to the pump unlike it was years ago. I have been overseas several times in years past and I know what they were paying over there in the 70's and thought it was ridiculous then. I also realize a major portion of the cost is taxes but when I drive down Rt 460 and see pot holes big enough to turn Volkswagon beatles over, I gotta wonder where all that tax money is going. I am also paying more for heating oil which is dyed diesel fuel than I am for on road fuel. What's up with that? No road tax, where is that extra money going besides into the owners pocket.

This is just my opinion on the way the oil companies work but the refineries are producing so much oil right now whatever you want to call that quantity. They are pretty much af full capacity from what I read about production. SO lets say we all ride motorcycles, which would be pretty cool, and we cut the amount of oil we use in half just for example. Now there is an overabundance of oil on the market and the price comes down. All the reserve tanks are filled up with oil and there is no place to put the oil that the refineries are producing so what are they going to do, shut them down and lay off the people that work there? I think not. There is a delicate balance, as I stated earlier, of what is produced vs what it required and when that gets upset, things usually go bad for the consumer.

This is just the way I see it and am not preaching or trying to change any one's thoughts here. I am always willing to learn so if this is in error, feel free to correct me.
Re:When will it stop
I think you've got it right DD.
Too much of a good thing isn't good either.
So Y'all keep drivin' when the weather warms up, and I'll start ridin so's I can help us build up just enough fuel reserve that everyone keeps their jobs, Fuel prices come down, and I can have a great time commuting, showing all the Soccer-Dads & Moms in their SUVs that cut me off cuz their yapping on their cell phones that "They are #1 in my book"

Up here, we've seen a 10 cent/litre fuel hike in the last 4 months, due to the "worldwide cost of oil going up". If Canada didn't supply most of its own oil, I wouldn't worry much about it, however this isn't the case. So what we have are gas and oil companies, using resources that belong to Canadians, and they are posting record profits from it. It chokes me up, and the gov't won't step in as the more the oil company charges for it, the more the gov't gets in taxes. Its a sweet deal for them >

Push Rod...the gov does not want to step in and stop a good thing for them in the tax department.

Banks and oil companies up here are slowly building a monopoly with all the buy outs and take overs. If it was not so dang cold up here I would seriously look at the veggie/fryer oil fuel approach...I emailed the folks and they felt it was too risky to try this in temperatures colder then 20*F. :'(

Re:When will it stop
You have to find that happy medium wherever that is and stay there to keep things in balance.
Just like here at work, we are a two unit base load nuclear station which means that we stay loaded to 100% power at all times unless we trip or are shut down refueling. A nuc unit is happiest at 100% power and operates more effieicently there. The coal units, or dirt burners as we call them, are used for load following. We also have hydro's and pumped storage units. They ramp up and down or come on line and off line to follow the electrical demand at any particular moment. The nuc unit makes more money at full power just like a refinery makes more money at full production. If they operate at less than full production, they are making less money which is the name of the game. If they are producing less gas and oil, they will just need to charge more to keep the place going anyway.
Hope this makes sense somehow.
