What Should I do?
 

Hey everyone I am in a bit of a pickle, I quit my old job to run a guys hay business for him once this season started and ever since then I've been in trouble...

I've known this guy for a long time probably 10+ years, always cool to be around and will help you out if he can and I have worked for him before. Well I have been doing the hay by myself working crazy hours to try and stay on top of things whenever it isn't raining, and when I do this I make sweet money (weather permiting). But the last few months have been horrible as far as the weather goes, it'll rain for a week and be sunny a week (not to mention the month and a half of straight rain). When it does this I can't stay on top of things though because it just takes so long to do everything by myself when all the hayfields are spread out across town and I only have one tractor to use and no truck to transport stuff with, I have to drive the tractor everywhere. I am not able to make any money like this and it seems like the rain is only getting worse, I WANT to quit and get a more stable and regular job but I don't know if I should do this now or try to tough it out to the end of the season, I don't think financially I can do that though.


Ok, so what do you guys think, should I quit now and get another job for financial security for myself and leave my boss high and dry? OR Try to tough it out, work crazy hours to make up for missed income (not many days off) so he doesn't go into bankrupcy?

I've known this guy for a long time and he has always helped me out when I needed it but working for him now is sending me to the poor house, I just don't know what I should do .. :(

You got to look out for number one first. You cant go hungry and without because you are a nice guy and dont want him to get left high and dry.

The hay buisness is an iffy kind of thing anyway. That has to be considered.

Talk to him about your situation and if he can't do anything to help you out, get another job. This way you didn't leave him hi-n-dry and gave him the opportunity to keep you around first. You need to look out for yourself first, that's not being selfish, that's ensuring your availability to your employer. Kurt

Agreed. Talk to him and see what he says, you might be surprised.

I agree with al of you but the only thing i would add is you talked about staying till the end of season. i would do that but only if i could, you said that you don't think you can make it on $. if you can make it with the cash then do it and let him know that you can't do this next season. But like everyone else said take care of #1.

this i pretty much the opposite of last year...i drive by the Hegar field at 2920 every day and it amazes me compared to last year. Talk with you boss, this has been an unusual season!
