WHat do you all think of these 1/2 ton engine wars
Sorry if this has been brought up before,I was offline due to moving into another house. What do you all think of these 1/2 ton engine wars going on out there. Everytime I turn around some company is always upping the ante with there V-8. I just cannot see hauling 9k with a 1500 V-8 from any company. I am not saying it cannot be done but I wouldn't do it.
I do not know what is more intersting the V8 wars of Toyota vs. Nissan vs. Chevy vs. Ford vs. Dodge or
the Diesel wars of Chevy,Dodge and Ford.
Who here agrees that Cummins should just take the leap of "standard power" torque to 800lbs??? Heck* with just 600lbs

I don't know about that. The aftermarket is alive and well with parts for the newer gen V8 gassers. Guess people will still buy stuff to get their trucks to tow like diesels.

It's great. 10 years ago, a stock chevy 5.7 liter 350 had 210 horsepower. Now there are 4 cylinders makeing that kind of power, and the 5.7 liter hemi is makeing close to 400.

Apart from the engine power wars, some of the payload ratings seem to be a bit suspect. Ferd lists a maximum payload of 2700 lbs for at least some version of the F150. I'm not sure if I'm buying that or not...

I'm with you Hoss. 1/2 tons isn't real trucks. 700lb ATV in the bed of my 1/2 ton C1500 Chevy would make the rear sag really bad. And then adding a trailer, well, it was ugly.

Or there's the new Magnum, a bit more station wagon than mini-van, though.
