If ANYONE want a garden during that time, buy HEIRLOOM seeds! Most of the seeds sold now-a-days are genetically modified to grow bigger/better/sweeter tasting crops and you will NOT be able to save then replant the seeds...

Stay away from highways. Easiest transportation available and people will start right next to the highways and fan out.

Network, network, network. My families have networks. we are talking about people who know how to garden, take care of the sick, electricians, plumbers, farmers, vets, etc. In fact, my parents with about 3-4 other families can survive amongst themselves.

People will want 1)Ammo, 2) Food, 3) Fuel, in that order.

 

Or move north you can be one of my armed guards that I am going to need, Protect me from looters, and and you get free room and boarding for you and your faimily.

A little hunting & fishing along with a garden will go a long way towards feeding your family -
gathering -wild berrys as they matuere will also be important .

sun drying foods as was done in the late 2800`s & early 1900`s will be of great importance for food storage.

the knolage of how to distill alchol will also be important . it will give you the ability to run your tractor & car when necasary.
as well as give you some spirits for madicinal use of corse

While I will agree that the scenario that you have proposed is quite possible I don’t feel that it is completely probable. I feel that the bottom may drop out of the economy but I also feel that the worst will most likely not happen (rioting and more that the normal amount of gun play) but just incase I have guns, a horse for transportation and cows for beef I can also hunt and fish and garden.
I also have the attitude that what is mine is mine and I will fight to hold on to it. So thieves beware, of coarse the later is in effect even without a catastrophic breakdown of the economy.

 

God help us all because even if people start hunting how much will go to waist ? I remember back in the late 70s (carter) people were coming out to the back woods and shooting anything that moved! we had cows that were killed then just the hind quarter taken the rest left to rot. Could you imagine LA or San Fran. clearing out and going hunting? meat would vanish in short time if you could not afford to feed large # of animals . people plant seeds the wont reproduce (hybrids) water systems shut down.I have a well I could get water out of it with no power.My folks grew up in pre WWII Germany and bread took a wheel barrow full of Cash to buy but the old timers knew how to live off the land way better then we do now . I guess obesity would not be a problem anymore

 

I'd get a large dozer and become the mass grave digger. Pay me with food to bury the dead. You know the bodies would pile up, they would be sitting in the cities waiting for the gubment rescue until they croaked from starvation or dehydration. This needs to happen on a global scale though, time to thin the herd. I always have said we need a good global killing disease or disaster, get the population back under control. Is it possible I could die, yep, oh well, gotta go sometime.
