What is the differance???????
??? I've got Keyed last week for going to a hang (local Mejiers store) out for kids. I used fine rubbing compound to remove them but now the area is dull looking.
I looked at rubbing compounds and waxs and am wondering what is really the differance between the two? What would be the best to put the shine back in that area? I don't think I rubbed all the clear coat off the area.
I complained to the store manager and asked to see the security tape they have of the parking lot. Seems I have to take them to court to get it. Why do they have cameras looking at the lots if they won't help catch the jerks? The store manager said the kids key a car/truck and sit back to see the reaction of the owners.
No more Mejiers shopping for me thats for damm sure.

Should have stopped at an MSP Post. They'll go view the tape. Maybe get lucky and get mom and dad to finance a paint job. I'm sure the troops are REEEEEAAAL busy up there.
Funny, two different worlds. Down here the victim would've been to busy to notice, then three days later, see the damage while in their driveway, then dialed 911 on a cell phone.

Re:What is the differance???????
Over the years I have had my cars keyed twice that I know of. Both times I think it happend at a Mejiers. Both time were before they had cameras. The cameras at a Mejiers did help my brother once when some people tried to scam money. They hit my brothers car then broke into it and rolled it against their car and told police that his car rolled into their car. The police looked at the tape and it showed what thay had done. Some people are stupid.

If I answer your question, will you ship me a case of Vernor's?
Rubbing compound is pretty abrasive, so depending upon what type you used and how hard and how much you rubbed on it, you might have removed the clear coat. What I'd try first at this point, after the compound, is some Meguiar's Fine Cut cleaner. It's less abrasive than rubbing compound, so hopefully it will start to even things out a bit, and then go to a polish like Meguiar's clear coat polish.
In general, wax isn't an abrasive at all. Its place is simply to protect the shine. Polishes are slightly abrasive, cleaners slightly more so, rubbing compounds come in different "cuts" but are more abrasive than cleaners. Next step beyond a compound is wet-sanding.
What you're trying to do is even out or flatten the peaks in the finish, which in this case is the groove along the key scratch. The flatter or smoother the surface gets, the more reflective it is.
