Very sad....
"You have to watch out for the ones that cant watch out for themselves."
Ditto on this- and maybe some potential situation to think about when driving and when buying an accessory for the truck- maybe some mirror enhancements that could save lives are available.
I wouldn't wish anybody to be on either side in this situation...

I am in total awe over this thread... It brings tears to my eyes, especially after I just posted a bunch of pictures of my son..
Made it a point to send it along to everyone who I hold dear - along with the message "All the more reason to hug your family tonite"
And dangit! Hold your childs hand when they walk across the street! Exactly that --- You have to watch out for the ones that cant watch out for themselves. Awsome phrase Kid...

not to be judgemental but its always good pactice to watch and make sure no one is around vehicle when moving from parked position. just something i learned from being on steel and driving equipment, hopefully the family will eventually heal to a degree but this will be with them forever.
The only positive thing I can get from this is what Palmetto posted and the fact that now many of us that have read this will be more vigil about whats going on around our vehicles. I have shared this story to several folks and suggested they have a good look around too.
I have lived and worked on a ranch all my life. My brother has two little boys, 5 & 7, that are always running around the place. They run loose around there on their byclyes, and on foot. We always tell them to watch out becuase there are people that drive up that cant see you sometimes, and they will run over you.(mostly big trucks pulling trailers)
The other day I was backing down the driveway towards our shop, and I saw the two runts riding thier bikes. ( i was atleast 200 yards from them), the older one grabbed his little brother and they biked over to the side out of my way. I was in no way near them, but they were doing what they were told. I guess we struck the fear in them. I was so proud of them.

I can't stand the stupid flat square mirrors they put on cars. You can't see anything beside you w/ them! You have to turn your head to look in your blind spot. I have these panoramic wall-eye mirrors glued onto my flat mirrors and w/ them I have absolutely NO blind spots...if I can't see something out of the corner of my eye, I can see it w/ my wall-eye mirror. I can see curbs that I'm about to run over also. Not saying that things would have turned out better for that girl or not...but ya never know.
