Terrible terrible accident. But was the driver that incompetent that he/she did not look into their mirrors and see the little girl? Just sickening. I hope the driver never sees daylight again.

Glad I wasn't at work today.
The link referenced just happens to be where I work.
Breaking news like that messes up the day quick.
It's amazing what happens to common sense once one gets in the drivers seat.

Maybe it's not appropriate to talk about this here -- but I do feel sorry for the driver. For me, this story hit home. Here's why:
A few years ago my wife and I were driving on a road in South Dakota. Came up behind a small pickup truck that was travelling a bit slower than we were -- about 45 mph or so. Didn't notice anything wrong, but when I got up behind him, little blotches of red liquid started appearing on my windshield. Commented on it to my wife, and she hunched forward and looked, and said, "My God! That's blood!"
So we didn't know what was going on and talked about it for a minute -- wondered whether there was a dead animal in the back of the pickup truck, etc. Then I noticed something bumping along underneath the truck, in front of the rear axle where I could barely see it.
Turned out the guy had gotten into his truck and drove off, not knowing that there was a five-year-old boy by the passenger's side. Boy got his jacket hooked on a piece of loose trim, the trim bent and the jacket tore a bit, and the boy was dragging at an angle beneath the truck. Guy would never have known if we hadn't flagged him over.
We'll never forget that. Guy was too upset, and I was the one who had to go underneath the truck to see about the boy.
The guy spent a year in therapy, lost his job, and finally killed himself.
Don't be too hard on the driver. We don't know enough.

But it also makes me think.......drove 3 miles without once looking in the mirrors? It is these people who toodle along unknowingly while an ambulance tailgates them.
Monday I was driving home in hwy59 traffic.(2 lanes oneway) I saw an ambulance coming way back behind me. All the traffic around me got over to the right hand lane. Then there was this old Mercedez diesel car that never saw the ambulance. The ambulance tailgated that dude for awile before he got over. The amb. could have gone offroad, but it was real wet.
I will pray for this family. That is so sad.

As Tartarus said, "We don't know enough information." I think we need to realize that not everyone drives something with 6x9 mirrors and I'll bet you can't sit in your truck or worse yet, some of the newer cars and be able to see 100% of everything around that vehicle. Let's not convict and sentence this person to death when we don't know the whole story.
This story is sad enough as it is without us passing judgement on someone who may have to live the rest of their life with more pain and sorrow than any of us will ever know.
thats why they teach you to look around before you leave, if its a quick stop to talk to someone, watch them walk away from your truck, cause you never know if they got out and dropped somethin, or slipped on some ice right outside your door. you just never know. i feel for the family, i couldnt even imagine doing anything like that, or even losing my kid cause someone else doesnt watch what the heck they are doin. they are in my prayers
I'm praying for the entire family.
Having 2 little ones myself, 3 1/2 & 2, I can only imagine what this family is going thru, including the driver, and I hope to never experience something like this first hand.
I know a guy who about 25 years ago got in his truck to go to work and didn't see his daughter (3 years old at the time) and backed over her with his truck. Luckily, no serious damage, physically. Mentally I know he was never the same, I don't think I would be either. The man upstairs was watching over them that day, just like he does the rest of us every day.
I'm going home tonight and give everyone in my family a big hug, just shows how fragile life really is.

My heart goes out to both the little girls father & to the aunt who dragged her. I don't understand how she did not hear or see anything for 3 miles. But she must be going through HELL right now, The Father, The aunt & the little girl all lived togather. I hope & pray that they can get through this Terible ACCIDENT..
Tartarus-sorry you had to experience that.
I can't remember ever dropping someone off, let alone a loved one, and not waving bye to them or something. But, I don't know the exact circumstances, and I don't want to fault anyone. But, man there were sure alot of sirens going by my house...come to find out, it was only a mile from my house that this happened.
