Thumbs down Valet parking

So I went out to dinner with my parents and girlfriend tonight, and they (my parents) made (parental pressure kinda thing!) me valet park my truck... 10 minutes later i ran out and took my keys back and went and got my truck and parked it and locked it up somewhere else.

I was hoping you all would tell me that this is all OK well and normal and that I don't have issues?

Most kids who work valet parking wouldn't have any idea what to do with all the switches in most modded trucks! They probably couldn't get them to shut down or start again! Hard to let some mouth breather get ahold of 45grand worth of truck to ding up!!

I used to work valet so I know what happens.

You car doesn't get locked usually (don't want to deal with annoying aftermarket alarms)

They floor it once you go inside and definitely don't wait for the EGT's to go down to 300 before shutting down.

The liability of most of these places is usually zero, if you look at the tag (not liable for damage done to vehicle, theft, damage, items stolen from vehicle, etc.)

Most of the people don't really know how to drive stick, clunk clunk clunk...

I laughed when the valet wanted to park my truck and then next year the vette. Yeah. I'm gonna give some kid who's my age the keys to my two babies. The look on his face when I let my date out and then walked back around and drove off was priceless.

njoverkill I would have bet no way you would let someone else park your truck after having yours stolen when you moved to AZ. We go over to the Indian casino in Canyonville Or. once in awhile & if it's raining the wife wants to use valet parking. I say no way. I drop her off at the door, go park my truck where the video cameras have a good view of it, lock it & throw my hidden switch. I don't mind going & getting the truck then driving up to the door to pick up the little woman.

I figure if they can figure out how to use the sled pulling clutch, they can drive it. The last time I dropped the truck off at the valet stand, grabbed the ticket and went inside the restaurant. We came back out a few hours later. My truck was still right by the stand & there was no evidence they figured out how to move it. I thanked them and left.

Not a chance in well you know! Aint no way a valet is driven my truck. First you give them your keys, that means they have access to everything in the truck, your insurance papers your registration all with your address! Second the chance that your house keys are on with your truck keys is GOOD. Now they have your address and your keys and how long does it take to have a copy made at Walgreen? 4-5 minutes! So they have your house key and address and know what you drive! Given the zit faced brat parkin cars probaly wont go through that but...It has happened!

Sorry to be the fun anchor.

Usually the only people who drive my truck are family. Mom has drove it before cause she needed to. Dad drives it every now, and then. 2 of my buddies have driven it, but that probably wont happen anymore either. NO way would i let a valet park my truck. Heck. When i took my truck and had the front end aligned the guy who pulled it on the stand felt the need to mash it pretty good in the parking lot first. Then they didnt even get my trim rings on good. Glad i checked that. No way a valet would drive mine.

I am a big believer in the Valet Key concept -- the one that opens the driver door and starts the engine, but doesn't open the console or glovebox or trunk. I have had several vehicles with that feature, all Dodges. I have let valets drive the Spirit and the Grand Caravan, but never been anywhere with a valet while driving my truck. I probably wouldn't let them, anyway. Do yourself a favor: get the Valet keys if you don't have them, if you are tempted with the valet.

The few places I go that offer Valet service dont even like my truck coming in thier parking lot.....

guess the pile of manure still on the flatbed last time kinda upset some of the other diners...
