Turbocharging a gasser

Ok, I'll admit it, I'm hooked for good on turbos now...the sound, the power, the sound the economy---did I mention the sound? I'm thinking of playing with my old Chrysler a bit this season and the small displacement big block (361 ci) with low compression and mopar big block stoutness seems like a good candidate for a turbo. Plus, my old newport (see sig) has TONS of underhood room for plumbing and whatnot. Any and all suggetions or other sources of info are welcome

A local shop here pushed 500whp out of a 350 chevy block without internals on 93 octane. They were going to rebuild the motor with forged internals, lower compression, headwork, and hopefully squeeze 650-700whp on "97" octane"

What size "turbo"? Are you sure you didn't mean "turbo's"???

'Bout three should do you over... One off an RX-7, one off a Dodge and one off a Clatterpiller should hold you over... Then again, one off an earth mover might look nice coming out of the hood...

I'd use a couple IHI's off the GM 6.5 diesels... good turbos, HUGE internal wastegates...

a couple HY35's or HX35's would work, but you might want to port the wastegates or you could run into overboosting pretty easy.

I've bought those 6.5 IHI's for $25 a piece before...

Forget the turbo get a supercharger. They work better on gassers.

A good website for Gas turbo information is the Grand National website.

GN Website.

They have lots of good technical articles on turbo selection, fuel flow requirements, timing... You name it..

Well, there are TWO exhaust manifolds....That was my first thought, actually! What I'd like is to keep the cars' docile nature and good fuel economy when I'm not into the loud pedal. Rowdy cams and high comp slugs and their associated race fuel are just not my thing. I thought about nitrous, but that doesn't fit either. Would a turbo of a 24v auto with the 9cm housing be too big? They seem to go for peanuts on ebay...maybe there's a reason though? Just tossin ideas around--thanks for the replys!

Turbos rock. Far more efficient than a supercharger. I'm doing twins on my 454.

that's the HY35 I mentioned... you'll need two of them, but yes, they would be great.

if you've got the room, twins will be much easier to package and much easier to purchase... you aren't going to find a big single that'll support your needs at a junkyard... but the twins will be great!!!

keep the stock cam, stock heads, etc.

turbos love cams with no overlap (stock) and low compression (stock)

the IHI's came on the GM 6.5 diesels (pre-duramax) crappy engines, great turbos! you can probably get them cheaper than the HY35's, but I'd say either will work...

turbo is the only way to go!
