Transmission question
Transmission question
I dont know if this is the correct forum for this question but this is the only place I know. My Dad just bought a 2000 Ram 1500 4x4, 360 c.i. It jumps back and forth between 1st and 2nd . It has 75000 mi. on it and we have had the tranny serviced. It seems to be worse when it is cold (first driven in the morning). The owners manual recommends having the "bands" adjusted every 30k. Would that have anything to do with it? To me it seems that the problem would be in the valve body or possibly electrical. It doesnt effect it to have o\d turned off. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Sounds like the same problem we with real trucks
also have with the electronically controlled automatic transmissions.
Sometimes cleaning the battery terminals really good clears it up,
you can also have him try cleaning all the engine to body grounding straps, making sure they have good corrosion free connections,
also the ground connections for the PCM.
Should be in "other" forum, since it doesn't deal with any Cummins or 2500/3500 problems.

Thanks guys for the input. Phox, sorry to misuse the forum. I thought this was the "other" forum. I see everything from puppies to cb radios being brought up just today. Dont think they have anything to do with problems with 2500/3500 ctd.
Phox, when the mechanic hooked up his equipment to the truck he said the govenor pressure was all over the map and that some solenoid needed replacing. You pretty much nailed it. As far as the forums go, if my post ended up on that "24 valve...." it didnt happen on this end. Until tonite I dont know if I have ever been on that forum. Im a member of two more message boards besides this one and understand the purpose of the categories. I tried on this end to get it right. Thanks for the accurate diagnosis. Chrysler trannies have always kept us from buying their products so it was a relief to see that this was not the nightmare we had heard about over the years

Glad it was something relatively easy to diagnose.
Another moderator probably moved the post to the forum I found it in, not noticing that it involved a puny gasser truck
, then I moved it back to the original forum you posted in, no worries.phox
