Thumbs up Toyota to get the Cummins Rival!!!!

I have just finished up with a Cat Technician working on some of our Gen's and the conversation turned to 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. In his words- - - - - -Some of there Catapillar Technicians are learning the Toyota Way of doing things in there training seminars in the past couple of weeks!!!!!!!!! -------He said that the new Common Rail C7 will be the engine of choice for the new Toyota Tundra!!!!!!!! I can't wait to take a test drive in one of those BEAST!!!! -------Ok start the Flames !! I wonder what the power output is going to be and if the Cat will hold up over time?????

--------Ok so where is yours??????? ------If there technicians are being taught the (Toyota way)----just what does that mean-----they are just trying to get better at dependability?????? I have to beleive that he would know what he is talking about. I'm not going to call him a liar or some joke when he works around and reads the reports that his fellow technicians bring back to the office.

Listen, at any one time we have between 5 and 10 technicians on our payroll, and let me tell you what, some of them are full of enough bull, and ornery enough to start a rumor like that just for fun.

Also, A C7 Cat weighs in right at 1,300lbs. 200lbs and some change more than a Cummins. And it is 7.2 litres in displacement. I don't think it'd fit, and I don't think it'd drive worth a darn if it did with all that weight on the front end.

He stated that they were looking into the weight saving issue already------I brought that up because of a previouse post on here about the weight of the engine. I dont think that fitting that engine in the New Toyota would be that daunting of a task???? Why do you feel that way about the C7????? I hope that this is true and not some fluff, I'm just not going to call someone that I have had a great working relationship with a liar. I have never know this person to lie about anything that he has ever stated pertaining to Diesel talk!

Why don't you ask him if Ford owns Cummins and see what kind of response you get. Sounds like the same type to me?

I dont know what y'all think about Toyota, but provided:
1) This rumor is true
2) Cat can put their best foot forward with the C6/7
3) Toyota truly builds a truck for that engine,
Then, that would be a good combination.
However, the three criteria in mentioned above could be said for any manufacturer starting out with a new design/combo.

Rich.

At the moment, Toyota is just listing three engines for their 07. 5.8L V8 confirmed and suspected a 4.7L V8 and a 4.0 L V6.
If they move up to a heavier duty truck, they could easily get rid of the two smaller engines for a diesel.

This is the spec on the C6:
I-6, 4-Stroke-Cycle Diesel
Bore (mm, in) 105 mm, 4.13 in.
Stroke (mm, in) 127 mm, 5.00 in.
Displacement 6.6 liters, 402.8 cu. in.
Aspiration Turbocharged/ATAAC
Rotation (from flywheel end) Counterclockwise
Cooling System Liquid
Weight, Net Dry 525 kg, 1157 lb.
(approximate kg, lb)

88-186 bkW/120-250 bhp 2200 rpm
You can read more about it HERE

I provide this on the C6 as Im guessing (and just a guess) that the two engines are going to weigh in pretty close to each other?

And look- they can already detune it to leave room for next year
860 ft/lbs at 1440 is insane Especially if they can put in into a lighter pickup than a dodge.
