That's odd. My '99 and my '02 started with no problems and no assistance at -10. Plug the block heater in and I've been fine to -30.

I think the batteries are in need of being replaced, cause it was cranking really slow.

I know one battery has had a corrosion problem on the negative terminal. I would like to put Optima red tops in it, but at $180 a piece it may not happen.

-28 right now in central Minn. It's plugged in at home. The truck started fine last night after work at -15 not plugged in. Gotta love that 3 cyl idle.

I started mine before I left work last night to let it warm up a little, it kicked into 3cyl mode and I had people coming in telling me, hey there's something wrong with your truck it sound really bad and it's really loud. Hehe. Love it.

Well, wednesday evening it was -29 F here. Fired right up with being plugged in. What we have found here is that an oil pan heater (250 watts) works great as well as the block heater. Instant oil pressure and quicker warm up. Have to use the manual high idle as the motor is too warm for the automatic high idle to kick on. Helps I took the fan off also.

That isn't too cold for your truck unless you are right about your batteries. Also as said above the oil is very thick at -9*. 15w40 dosen't like to flow hardly at all. An oil pan heater isn't a bad idea....

It was weak batteries, it finally started after I put the charger on for a while. Might be time for new batteries.

My Dad had asked me earlier that afternoon if I needed to plug it in, I said "naw I dont need to plug it in".

I hate you.

But seriously - I've plugged my truck in the last 3 nights.

-13 in Youngstown, OH

No problems starting at all.

I usually never plug it in, but I'm sure she would like to be warm on these brutal winter nights.

If I don't plug her in, I cycle the grids a few times, and after cranking a few times she will spit and sputter but maintain idle (rough idle).
