Time for locking fuel caps!

Jumped in the truck Friday evening to find my fuel gauge on almost empty. It had more than a half of tank when I parked it earlier. Darn thieves got me! I went and put a some fuel in, just to make sure it wasn't the guage reading wrong. Truck was parked in my driveway.

Doesn't that just tick you off? I really can't believe the nerve of some people... yet in todays world I almost can... I left my truck in a parking lot overnight when I went to get my donor truck yesterday, I was worrying I'd find it keyed up or with no oil or something today when I went to pick it up... I shouldn't have to feel that way!

Don't bother. A battery drill will make quick work at getting to your fuel. And then you will have the price of a tank.

Yea, I was also wondering if I was going to have a problem fueling up. They cut the filler neck hose on my buddies truck, few years back at a boat ramp. Wondering if a locking fuel cap might lead to more expensive repairs.

It's sick that we even have to think that way. I have the Dodge and the wife drives a suburban. Two vehicles with large tanks. We are going to start backing up to the garage so the back ends are not pointing out to the street. Neither of them fit in the garage before anyone asks.

forget locking fuel doors, we need to fabricate a full fuel tank protective holder, make the tank bulletproof essentially, then do the same for the filler neck. that way you cant drill the tank and drain it, or cut the hose and syphon. these are definatey trying times.

Scumbags cut a hole in the tank of our 05 GMC Cab & chassis a couple months ago. Cost for replacement with labor.......... $1200!!!!!!!

I have a locking cap I got from Genos a couple years ago. I haven't put it on this truck yet.....

locking fuel caps are a joke. Most can be removed just by squeezing them and just as most already said, a drill bit through the plastic tank is WAY easier than siphoning anyway.

better yet. we could put false bottoms in our tanks, and put the opposite fuel in it. that way whoever drills the tank lookin for diesel will get unleaded, and hopefully, in their rush to get out of there not know it, then put it in their rig. hahaha, that would be awesome if that actually could work.

Or having a in bed fuel tank with super watered down diesel.. will still smell like diesel but they get mostly water. now THAT would be funny.

or we could all stop sleeping at night, and wait for someone to try and get our fuel, and while they are doin that, we sneak out to their rig, and take THEIR fuel.

Security cameras are relatively cheap - might not stop them right away, but maybe you could aid police in figuring out who it was?

I have thought about getting an in-bed tank for my truck. I have a tonneau cover so it would be out of sight. Now if i could plumb my fuel system to the in-bed tank only and have a working fuel gauge I'd be happy. Fuel theft in my area has been growing lately.
